A great unsung development disaster is the new state court building on the east side of the connector. My god that thing is hideous. I know it's in vogue to build a metaphorical Fortress of Justice and Doom in every city, but I sure wish ours weren't quite so visible.

Hi Testarossa! Just think the state wants to takeover Hartsfield-Jackson. Imagine the tradegy and ugly designs that would be.

Planning permits were relatively quiet over the holidays, but there were a few hints on some new projects.

Along the Beltline Eastside trail in Virginia Highland (on the other side from Home Depot), a rezoning permit was filed for 675 Drewry St NE. Currently there are some small industrial buildings on the site. " The proposed project is a mid-rise, for sale condominium development along the beltline in Virginia-Highland. The project includes approximately 55,000 SF of multi-family for sale residential uses with no commercial uses included. The building is designed to accommodate 5 1/2 floors of residential over 2 levels of the parking structure. Rezoning from I-1 to MRC-3."

At 508 Boulevard Place (between Boulevard and Glen Iris) a rezoning permit was filed for a 0.872-acre assemblage of property from R-5/Beltline Overlay to MR-4B/Beltline Overlay. This would allow for townhouses.

Permit filed at 450 Bishop St NW to convert the existing warehouse into a mixed use building. This is a fairly large building right next to the new-ish apartment complexes on Bishop, behind Target at Atlantic Station. This first came up way back in 2016.

And a couple of relevant building permits filed over the holidays:

Arborist review filed for Atlantic Yards at 170 17th St.

Commercial Land Development filed by Cousins Properties for infrastructure for "Project Fusion" (AKA Norfolk Southern) at Ponce and West Peachtree.

Commercial Land Development filed for Margaritaville timeshares 21 story tower at 155 Walton. This would involve the demolition of two historic buildings including where the first country music record was recorded.

Multi-family QCR filed for an apartment building at 881 Rock St near Washington Park. Three stories with 53 units, mostly low-income.

Multi-family land development filed for 69 townhomes at 912 Huff Rd on the westside.

Bunch of permits for "the Cascades" townhomes near 285/20 on the far westside.

Let them build it, let it bust, then we get new condo housing stock at a nice location!

that land could be more profitable to someone better utilized imo. a great development could move the wheel, reno the tabernacle, reuse the historic buildings and build a taller small footprinted tower.

Those are parcels north of the proposed Margaritaville, just in case you were thinking it’s the same. Or maybe I’m mistaken of the location of the hotel/condos.

Yesterday I thought it appeared Anthem is just past their parking deck stage. Hard to tell from this angle, but hopefully this one will be rising even more swiftly than it has been already.

Did you really compare Nashville and Charlotte to Atlanta?

Charlotte nor Nashville can not match Buckhead's skyline

thanks. you're right. Still would be nice to save those 3 small buildings but I
know it's not real feasible.

Looking at the hotel site plan I really don't see why it isn't--
The entire hotel program could be accommodated in the existing parking lot.
Too bad they look to be getting away with this. We need to save what little historical fabric that we have left--

You're correct, they're past the parking deck and are just starting the regular floors. I suspect the irregular shape means that tower will take longer than others but the pace should pick up a little from what it has been.
