April 9 Pictures:

^^^ Some footings poured for office building at Queen & 8th. In the distance (across the river) can be seen the Children's Hospital (to the right of the big spruce tree) and the Cancer Center and Arts Tower (to the left of the tree).

^^^ Former Lydia's site. Looks like brick and Tyndall stone finishes. I think its going to be a beautiful building. No stucco to be seen!

^ I agree, for a single storey building, they did a great job. The only let down is that they are planning to finish the upper half of the parapets (the plywood part above the Tyndall stone) with metal flashing instead of carrying the masonry veneer all the way to the top.

At least there's a setback between the building and the sidewalk on 11th St that could allow for a patio there. Nice boost to street level vibrancy.

Stonebridge

Does anyone know what is being built in Stonebridge:
- south of the McDonald’s, by the three way stop; and
- on the corner pad by the Hampton Inn, kitty corner from CIBC?
I’m sure they’re both bland single-level national chain retail/financial/anything with a drive-thru, but still curious.

Well, you're right about the first one. Dollarama is going in south of the McDonalds on Preston.

Tarping has come off the exterior of the old Egadz, revealing new windows and a roofline:

I heard solar panels will take up most of the roofing to make the building 100% energy dependant

I noticed the other day that excavation has begun beside the old brick Tees & Persse highrise adjacent to the old Egadz. Part of the same overall redevelopment and addition of those 2 buildings.

I could not find the architectural rendering for this, but remember thinking it looked good!

^^^^ One addition to the Saskatoon building skyline that I don't think was that well thought out. Unless this render is a working image.

I'm not crazy about this addition either... mostly because what always stuck out about the old structure to me is it's slenderness. It's not so much the material of the glass curtain wall so much as it being flush with the old facade, and just a hint taller. I think it will make the building seem a little more squat turning it from an early 20th century high-rise warehouse into just another obscure brick and glass office building - I think if it were set back a little further it would keep the feel of the original facade intact.

I also dislike that the reno required evicting tenants/artisans using that space for decades that didn't want to leave.

These are some of the most run down buildings in a dead space of our downtown. We should be so grateful to see a renovations like this to both of them - everything strata does is amazing imo. If this wasn’t happening I bet they both would have been torn down.Maybe the city of Saskatoon will consider renovating the John Deere building next to this after they see these.

This is the John Deere building I’m referencing to that needs some strata love. This spot reminds me of the space where the Richardson innovation Center that’s being built in Winnipeg is going... 😔

Come on Saskatoon, move your city yards or atleast shine then up...

The City has committed the John Deere to the U of S for a future School of Architecture, if and when that happens.

There's a rig drilling test holes on the big parking lot at 25th St & 5th Ave this morning. Anyone know what's up?

That's a big site. Would be nice to see it developed.

The rumor is that it was purchased by Baydo and they intend to develop it.
