^ I went with a coworker who is from Hong Kong and she said it was very reminiscent of her homeland. I guess that's really saying something.

For the record, that free slice of pizza was really good but it was small. Not complaining, just saying.

Too bad you guys can't get to the employee cafeteria, "Ralph's", on the 43rd and 44th floors. Surprisingly good and reasonably priced with an awesome view. If you know anyone that works in the building, get them to register you for a visit one day.

If you look at the building at night, you can usually see two floors towards the top that are more illuminated than the others. I'm pretty sure that's the cafeteria.

I checked out the plaza last night for the first time since it's been open, and I have to say, it's spectacular. The cafe was PACKED...I didn't see a single table open at around 7:45pm...there was a crowd of about 40 people in the lobby gazing at the screen as I came up from the train. Some were tourists! The fountain is really classy...not too ostentatious and very appropriate I think. I can't wait to see this thing in a few years when the trellis is filled out with whatever they planted. It's already a hub of activity! Very sharp.

The Comcast Center lobby display cost $22 million and consists of ten million pixels made from 4 mm LEDs!!

EDIT: Whoops, this was previously posted, sorry

I ran into town today via the train and when I got off at Suburban...I headed to the Marketplace and it was a mob scene. I didn't stick around because of that. When I made my way back, they were having yet another employee welcome in the lobby and got to see the video screen in action. Mighty impressive and I wish I could watch porn on it!

Then I made my way back down to the Marketplace and it had emptied out since it was now after 2pm. I did get a slice of pizza from LaScala which was tasty. It's nice down there, I just wonder what they will do to keep the homeless from the train station from setting up shop in there or stealing food. The one self serve case for DiBruno's is a bit away from their registers and anyone could just run up to it and do a quick grab and run. I really didn't see much of security guards down there.

Grand Opening

Yesterday was the official Grand Opening of the Comcast Center. There was plenty of fanfare and free food in the lobby. It was supposed to be for Comcast employees but I saw that many from outside took advantage of this lobby being a public place and joined the party. A nice presentation was shown on the video screen in the lobby. (As I came in today, some excerpts from yesterday's show were playing on the screen.) Ralph Roberts said a few words while son and CEO Brian stood alongside him.

On another note, the outdoor cafe seems like they've been getting a lot of business. Looks like a success so far as long the weather cooperates.

Yes...I stepped inside for a minute and was by the door closest to who looked to me was Brian Roberts at the microphone. I just stood there for a minute or two and then used the outdoor entrance along JFK to get downstairs.

The outdoor cafe was packed with customers at noon but only had a few tables going when I came back after 2pm.

^It's clearly in use.
I like it better that way, when the transparency of the facade reveals life inside the tower.

Anybody know why it's taking so long for them to replace the couple dozen remaining broken windows and finish the window washing along the edges?

The TV is amazing. My buddy didn't believe it was a tv, so we sat and watched it until it changed from the wood paneling, and I thought he was gonna shit bricks when it changed by the way he reacted.
