I assume they would tone down the lights if it was converted to condos...

Agreed. What I love about that building is that the shape is perfect for almost any skyline. It would look great in Seattle, Shanghai, NY, Chicago, Dubai, London, almost anywhere and it wouldn't ruin the skyline.

So yeah, a penthouse in that building would be fucking sweeeeet.

I would choose Taipei101 in a heartbeat... I would take over the public floors 89-91. Not only would I have stellar 360° views, but I would also have an expansive patio area for sunbathing and swimming (Obviously I would install the baddest infinity pool ever). Plus, the bottom floor of the condo would wrap the atrium enclosing the building's gorgeous tuned mass damper, and have a nice view looking down on the 3 restaurants occupying the space at the bottom of the atrium (85th and 86th floors iirc). By taking the public spaces in the building, I would also get my own personal elevator, which happens to be one of the world's fastest (travels to 89th floor in just 37 seconds!). Lastly, the base of TFC101 houses a shopping center, so I could potentially live, work and play in the same building and have no commute, ever!

Because of its location within downtown, it offers some of the absolute best views of the CBD. I'd give honorable mentions to the crowns of the David Stott and Fisher Building, which also make for some pretty brilliant and interesting living areas. They simply don't make buildings like this, anymore.
You beat me to it. I was just recently fantasizing that I could buy the Book Tower so I could live under the roof and swoop down in a black hang glider at 2:30 am.

Agree with you there, LMich. About 10 yrs. ago, I rode to the top floor, then two flights into the crown (38th). Found the elevator control equipment on this floor and, of course, great views out of those cool windows. Didn't want to leave. I could live there. Beautiful old tower!

The Book Tower is amazing, but it actually looks like it could use a renovation, it seems a bit tarnished, if that's the right word.

Surprised nobody posted the Woolworth Building yet.

I snuck up there pre-9/11. (Incredibly easy, nobody even asked what I was doing) and went up to the old OBS deck. The floor below it (you take some stairs to get to the OBS deck was pretty small, but perfectly sized for a condo.

In fact, pre-9/11 you could walk into most lobbies and pre-1993 WTC bombing you could walk into EVERY lobby and about 80% of the time (that I tried) just get on an elevator.

Good times... I miss my teen years.

The book looks so ugly right now, they really need to clean it and get rid of that fugly looking staircase on the side of the tower.
then and only then it would be the ultimate condo.
