Ooooh, Tulsa loves its deco and has a lot of new deco buildings. Dont have many pics though but have been thinking of going around and taking some.

We have just installed all new signage, maps and a wayfinding system all over downtown having a deco look. You can see one of the new signs in the upper right corner of this pic of a new bus station downtown.

The new baseball stadium currently under construction downtown has some deco elements, decorative panels and such. These are some older renderings and I think they have added a few more deco touches since.

There is also a proposal for a new hotel, across from the new arena, which looks to have some deco touches added to it.

New Casino and Hotel

Hotel tower is done now just dont have a pic

New building at the fairgrounds/expo.... The fairgrounds have recently seen a dramatic rebuilding program and all of the new buildings have deco touches added to them to pay homage to the grand old deco Pavilion.

Couple of new hospital buildings near downtown with a bit of a deco flair.

There are gobs more new buildings that are very deco but will have to go on a photo outting and get them one of these days. I am actually glad that there seems to be a renewed interest in deco here in Tulsa and more buildings being built with a deco influence. Tulsa was once known for its great deco architecture and imo should have continued to enhance that heritage and add to it over the years. I like what Miami has done and Tulsa could have done something similar but with its own brand of deco.

I am actually right in the beginning stages of getting an art-deco museum going here in Tulsa. I have some fantastic ideas for it. I dont want it to be a boring, staid museum, but want it to be vibrant, fun and alive, and right in the heart of downtown. Here is the rough draft I have designed for the logo. "TULSA DECOPOLIS" THE DECO CITY.

Here is a painting that I did recently which was used for Tulsas Mayfest. I took elements from different buildings around town and "collaged" them together. I had never painted anything with a deco twist to it but really enjoyed it and hope to do a series of them and see where it goes and how the look evolves.

Hope I didnt get too far off on a tangent. Just happens I am right in the middle of having art-deco on my mind every single day now lol. Gonna take a lot of work to get a museum going.

Here is a new building under construction in Manhattan, from afar it looks Art Deco but I can't find any images of it up close to be sure

(Sorry I can't link any pictures, the site's images are completely flash. I hate when websites do that)

There are a few neo-art deco buildings here in Maputo, Mozambique, as well as lots of original examples. I need to break out my camera one of these days...
