And if your excuse for an embarrassment on the river like this is "budget" then perhaps a government funded/subsidized youth service corporation shouldn't have built on the river?

Could have sold it to a private company, say someone like 300 Assiniboine directly across the river, who could then build something that includes parking but not a surface lot directly on the riverbank, say someone like 300 Assinboine directly across the river. Thats not a, as you put it, "nothing is good enough except the perfect solution, which costs too much money" type of attitude, its more... Why did tax dollars help damage the beauty of our river while a private company managed to do much better?
Precisely. If you can't do something with in the rules/guidelines, then don't do it, There's a giant swath of land across the street that the province owned that would have been perfect for MYS, where they could put parking off the back lane. Province would probably be thrilled to sell them some of the land.

Glad to see it grow, so fast!

Now to just throw in some retail around that area, maybe some more towers... by a factor of... 6?

I drive by the site all the time. Noticed they have it levelled off at the floor shown in the photo. Almost like they weren't going any higher. Previous to that it always looked staggered. Like there were pieces of the light coloured precast sticking up to the next floor. I presume they didn't cancel the top floors and it's just the point in construction.

^Everytime I drive by I think "god that can't be what the finished building is gonna look like, can it?" – and I get the feeling it is. Hopefully some of the accents make it more interesting on the eyes... that corrugated concrete is not a good look.

I dunno, I always imagined the first density based project at a transit hub was going to be cheaper, until Wpg catches on that THAT'S WHERE ALL LARGE CITIES DENSIFY.

the company doing construction on the project posted 9 more floors to go on thier Instagram account so it is very safe to say that the top floors aren't cancelled..

Ya the light coloured panels are 2 floors high. So it just happened to be at the floor where they didn't stick up.

Every other time I've been by it looked more staggered and unfinished.

Just curious, they're going to paint the outside or something, right?

I don’t think so, here it says ‘concrete cladding, horizontal ribbed pattern’.

I actually find the cladding to look pretty sharp in person. Really doesn't come across well in photos.

Going vertical again (this weekend).
