I hadn't thought about BR going into Tannery Place South, but that could be a possibility. That's on the other side of downtown from the Keg though, and there is a cluster of good quality restaurants and pubs around the Keg, like Catch 21, Osaka Hibachi, Pump House, Tide & Boar, Gahan House etc. You would think BR might like to be in that neighbourhood for synergy.

How's this for a thought - BR could go into the old Glebe House next to St. Bernard's Catholic Church. That building has oodles of character for a high end restaurant, and is well situated close to the other better quality restaurants in the core.
I have no idea where BR is going and I agree East Main is a better location for the above reasons. I just have the feeling we are going to be surprised when we find out where this spot will end up. I like the Glebe House suggestion. I just Have a hunch that the suggested locales are too obvious, that it will land downtown but in a busy yet less obvious spot. Like the old Paramount!! (*another random guess)

I'd love to see the Paramount get a complete makeover. Maybe that would break the curse that seems to dog every attempt to put something in there that would thrive. Glebe House would be the better choice IMO. I've been in one BR that was in just such an old and venerable building (Halifax maybe? I can't quite recall. I was drunk at the time, your honor....) and it was quite a venue, utterly charming.
Personally, I've always looked at the Casino area as ripe for fine dining. Bistro 33 is there and it's superb of course, but it kinda flies under the radar and I would contend there is room for two such establishments. The Casino buffet and pub are both okay for what they are, but what they are NOT is fine dining.
But it's anyone's guess.

BR Halifax is indeed in the old Morse's Tea building.

The Ashford Group who purchased the old Paramount building has said that they were planning on tearing down the back part of the building. For now they are leaving the front section as is. I wonder if they just do not want to have another empty hole on Main Street and will demolish the front section only when they they plan to develop something there.

My bad. Didn't read the post correctly. Tks.

It concerns me that they have not released any information about what they could do, or plan on doing, no timeline nothing.
A quote last month from Jim Dixon, a principal with Ashford Group:

"Moncton grows at a certain pace, so this is a long-term, go slow, find good projects — a project next year and then the year after."

The story from CBC also said nothing is expected immediately. So although they've spent millions of $$, it doesn't look like they're in a hurry to create anything.

Indeed. I suspect Ashford is in this for the long term, and we will still be talking about the redevelopment of this block in 10 years time, however, there are certain components that I think the city wants to work with Ashford on as expedited priorities:

1) - The next phase of Downing Street
2) - A new multilevel parking structure (necessary for Slate Management in order to keep the tenants of the Blue Cross Centre happy, and also to free up the Assumption Place parking lot for redevelopment).
3) - Relocation of the city market to Downing Street.
4) - Creation of a new street parallel to Main south of Assumption Place.

I think you will see movement on at least these components in the next 3-5 years.

That would be a great way to preserve the facade of that building. It's not far fetched either considering the location in downtown Halifax is in a similar building and it's also the nicest BR location I've been in.

I think we'll see a slow & steady approach by Ashford, one step at a time. This is a part of the CBC story from last month:

"I see opportunity," Jim Dixon, a principal with Ashford and its chief financial officer, said as he stood in the parking lot behind the jail. He described a vision of more retail, restaurants, office space and residential units on top.

He pointed to FiveFive Queen, an eight-story building with retail, restaurants, condos and a small hotel, as an example of what he sees as possible.

He said addressing downtown parking will be a priority, and there's the possibility of using the eastern portion of the land along Downing Street for the city's plan for a new market.

They are still actively looking for a franchisee so I doubt an announcement is imminent.

I realize that's still 4.5 months away, but that seems awfully ambitious to me. I would be happy if it were open by next April myself.

This morning the staff at Starbucks in the mall told me that their lease is up in February and that they would renew conditional on being allowed to renovate. They said that they desperately need more space since they are much busier with the influx of new business since the TD center opened up.

They absolutely should move into the old Mexx Kids location.

A few weeks ago they were talking about the possibility of relocating. I think it would be great to have store front location instead of that kiosk. They told me at the time that their sales have been significantly higher. Today they were using the word renovations. It definitely sounds like something will be happening. It's needed.
