BREAKING NEWS!

Quote:
From City of Toronto:

50 BLOOR ST W
Ward 27 - Tor & E.York District

Related Applications

OPA / Rezoning

Redevelopment of Holt Renfrew Site with a mixed-use condo development inclusive of existing and new space. It will include one 83-storey residential tower rising from an 8-storey commercial podium containing Holt Renfrew department store as well as other retail and service uses.
Application Number 12 141351 STE 27 OZ Application Status Application Submitted
Planner Name
Phone Number --- Status Date Mar 22, 2012
Community Meeting Date --- Date Received Mar 22, 2012
Statutory Meeting Date --- Proposed Non-Residential GFA (sq m) 18,835

Proposed Residential GFA (sq m) 71,780
Lot Size (sq m) 5,920
Proposed Residential Units 600
Proposed Storeys 83

If that's 75 storeys of condo above 8 storeys of retail/department store, we're probably looking at just slightly over 300 metres.

We may need a new "Proposals: Supertalls (300m+)" thread.

I actually love the newest rendering for Ten York... though I think a beastly beauty like that, with its funky design and whatnot, would look much better closer to the entertainment district possibly near the Shangri-La, especially considering that its height would be complimented by shangri la being much shorter yet still a very large and wide tower.

Bangkok, Seoul, Manila, and a whole whack of other cities are building lots of 200 m+ buildings as well. It's not as if these other cities are all standing still. Toronto will climb up the rankings, but would be lucky to squeak into the top 10. 6th spot isn't realistic.

A list is a list, but it is certainly interesting watching Toronto among these places. Some of them are far less impressive than Toronto (Houston, for example) regardless of a handful of tall buildings, but others are quite interesting. Studying the rise of Chongqing is most interesting as it was nothing some years ago and has become a new manufacturing super power. Albeit I want to see how fastly built Chinese cities last in the coming decades.

Urban Toronto member deranged reports on the changes to Ten York:

Quote:
Went in with a person who works for Tridel and saw the floor plans of the re-design work in progress. It's indeed going to be like the marilyn Monroe building where the base is wide, narrows in the middle, and is wider on the top again. Instead it will not be circular, but a rectangle with a thin side and a fat side.
Project will be finalized and VIP sales will be in September after E Condo sales wrap up.

As per above, the main building is no longer a square, it will be a similar shape as the triangular base.
10 units per floor. 8 elevators in total - 4 high rise, 4 low rise.

The largest unit "protrudes out of the building and will have a view of south west and north. It's 900 sw ft.
The smallest unit is a bachelor unit at 488 sq ft.

Each floor will have 5 x 1bdrm units, 1 bachelor, 2 x 3bdrm, 1 x 1+den, and the 2+ den large "protruding" unit on the west side.

Tridel is emphasizing this will be one of the iconic buildings of the Toronto skyline. I'm so exited for it.
Quote:
Sorry, forgot to mention that at the thinner parts of the building the 3bdrms are converted to 2+dens or even 2bdrms due to size constraints. Size of units vary from floor to floor.

The base will only have one retail unit and is unchanged in the plans that I saw.

I appreciate that is just you postulation of what Ten York will look like, but it is a great indicator of how tall this building will be compared to the others around it. Especially those already constructed like MLS.
