Imagine one that goes from Avondale to Stone Mountain and Conyers, or one that goes to six flags. It seems like it would be a more pleasant experience than having to ride a train down the interstate. We do need transit solutions for people getting across town but maybe the pro-BRT people are right about that being more cost effective. Save the train $$$ for rides that people will actually enjoy.

That is coincidental. It is a 4 month old video and it showed up in my Youtube recommendations today.

Beltline officials have finalized selecting the development team that proposed the above pictured proposal for Murphy's Crossing. The first phase could break ground as soon as next year, but the full build out would likely take through to 2030.

^That's amazing news confirming Culdesac as the developer. This has the potential to add a huge amount of affordable housing in a neighborhood designed to promote walk/transit/bike.

Wonder how long that concrete depot will last. That's some prime real estate.

Here is an interesting and VERY plausible alternative to light rail. This could also be a glimpse into the future of streetcars with full automation. It is sooooomuch cheeper to instal than rail and has sooooo many more potential benefits. Seems MARTA should take a look at this instead of investing in the past technology.

buses suck, even when operating in their own ROW. urbanists are all over EVs because they can be 20% heavier than a combustion powered vehicle of the same size, but buses weigh as much as 15 cars. particulate emissions and road wear from bus tires are insane. fourth power law

Video Link

at 10:45 - look at the particulates emitted on one bus route in just a single day, and imagine that right up alongside a walking path with almost no separation...

I can live with an electric bus.

I understand the romance of the rails. Just looking at practicality. For the price of the small section on the East side MARTA could likely encircle the entire Beltline for less money. Also there MAY be a smaller amount of NIMBY because of less noise. Plus the lower noise would be more peaceful for people on the Beltline.

ALSO in current real Beltine news work is starting on the Westside Spur to connect the Westside Connector to Merretta St.

I’m no fan of extending the streetcar along the Beltline, but I really can’t figure out what you’re saying here. Any MARTA HRT extension would be dramatically more expensive than the east side streetcar project. Except, perhaps, adding a station onto the north end of the Gold Line or something like that.

I expect each infill station to run well north of $100 million.

Just to add on:

Ansley Mall bridge looking complete and ready to open. Too bad Ansley Mall hasn't started on the new development.

North end and needs some addition to line up with the North East which is on the Beltline right of way.

South were it turns up to rejoin the Beltline right of way.
