I agree. It probably could have a home in Dubai, but not Chicago. Tacky comes to mind.

The attitude broadcast by these googaws - designed to pander to the egos of the most pretentious and monetarily hoarding pseudo-members of

This building represents the costliness of rushed desperation as much as anything else. Look at me, Look at me, like the adage,

So, we are left with the only assessment allowed today - It could have been worse.

Many of the greatest works of art in history were panned by critics of the day.... and yet, with time, have gone on to be recognized as visionary works ahead of their time and are now considered, "masterpieces".

This building has all the ear markings of being potentially being such a work. Time will tell.

Every skyline should have a few of these visionary works of art and steel mixed in with the typical towers that we so often see. How boring would a skyline be if it only built one thing/one look/one style. As they say, VARIETY is the spice of life. When a skyline is known for only one type of tower only, I believe that is when a skyline losses its zeal/pop/pizzazz/dynamism.

..... and the masterstroke of this tower is that despite the fact that it is clearly one of a kind... it also fits within the 'theme' and general shape/characteristics of the Chicago skyline.

I, for one, like the fact that people come on here to criticize it... while others come on here to praise it. It is... without question... thought provoking. The greatest works of art in history are exactly that - thought provoking.

Love it; hate it -- what an amazing tower!

Buildings are functional, then pieces of art. I think the main criticism you'll find here is grounded in what this tower *could* have been had some key elements not been treated as afterthoughts. One can only hope they find a more aesthetic solution to the blow-through and southern vents. And that one western vent.... ugh.

It's been open for a couple weeks now I believe. The lower level has a connection between the park in Lakeshore East to the Riverwalk which is really nice, and helpful while the connection by Cirrus/Cascade is closed for construction.

^ It’ll be nice when it’s more lit up. Right now it looks a bit like a gangrenous middle finger.

Nice shots!! I expect with the new full domestic airline flight schedules the airlines are running those river walk stairs will be full in June-September this year. Might even get more US tourists than normal since it's so hard to go overseas still.

Does anyone have any renderings of the hotel, or construction photos? Normally, spyguy would be on it, but haven't seen him on here in a while..hope he's ok :/

Great timing on that Sentinel! Took this last night. You can see the hotel build out is making great progress. Also have to say this thing is just stunning from this angle. Countless people were stopping to take pictures of it.
