Cool, though it's going to need a lot of maintenance.

That Winnipeg one still bothers me that it looks like a streetcar sinking in mud. They could have been more ambitious and had it at grade looking like it's ready to tip over on it's tracks.

What a waste of money, especially in a city severely lacking affordable housing.

What bugs me most is that the City of Vancouver requires developers to spend money on public art. I have no issue with private interests choosing to fund public art, but it should not be required by government, nor should government fund it. The role of government should be to protect the rights of the people, and either funding affordable housing or forcing private developers to spend more on affordable housing helps promote the right of the people to shelter, a basic human right. Public art has very little benefit to society, but again, if private interests choose to spend money on it without being forced to by government, that’s their business.

I would be far less bothered by this if it cost $50,000 or even $100,000, rather than several million dollars.

that's how art gets done, like the vessel at Hudson Yards in NYC.

Better than going in the developers pockets.

One of the big new murals in Lower Mount Royal, just outside of downtown.

We have a new, fancier Ottawa sign replacing the temporary one commissioned Canada 2017.

New OTTAWA sign lights up ByWard Market

The new sign is made of a more durable material that is expected to weather all four seasons in the nation's capital.

A popular tourist attraction in the ByWard Market is back and better than before.

The new OTTAWA sign was unveiled on Friday evening.

The city bought the new large letter sign with support from Ottawa Tourism.

It is made out of more durable materials that are expected to hold up in all four of Ottawa's seasons, including the harsh winters.

The sign also includes programmable LED lighting that will allow the letters to be lit up in different colours to help bring recognition to meaningful local causes and events.

Right now, the OTTAWA sign is lit up green and red for the holiday season

We had something similar for about 4 years (2015) at the Westboro Lululemon. It was re-painted grey last year.

We have too many new building murals to count, but here are the two newest physical art pieces downtown.

This one is at 10 Ave an 1 Street SE at a new rental apartment building...

I can't find a good picture of the completed art piece, but this one was completed in September in Ottawa's Hintonburg neighborhood.

That Ottawa sign just looks like a cheesy knock-off of Toronto's. Kind of like Montreal's ferris wheel.

Aren't all of those types of signs cheap know-offs of the original (Amsterdam? or I guess Hollywood(land)?)

I wonder why two different fonts for the two "e"s, but I guess the answer would be why not, it's art. In general, I find all these place name signs to be overdone, but the Glebe is not a place for the unexpected ...

The mural artist is Jocelyn Galipeau.

Not new. It was installed in 2014 at Lansdowne Park. Moving Surfaces. Just up the hill from TD Place stadium's east end-zone.
