Looks like the land where the Bush House Hotel was located in Bellefonte may have a new development soon on the site.

Here's a pic of the Bush House I took about a year before it burned down in 2006:

Some more info about the Bush House Here:

Here's an article about the new development:

Trying to dust this thread off...

This is a bit of an opinion-piece, really, but thought-provoking. I'm not sure if I agree that affordable housing for Penn State students will run out. Similar issues are happening in other college boom towns like Ann Arbor.

I don't know if I've ever seen a study about this sort of thing that lead to that outcome. I know most of those weren't about large student-only populations though.

And the 125,000 SF, mixed-used Pugh Centre opened last Fall; I don't think any updates or photos of it were ever shared on here. I just stumbled upon this -

'Here' is really impressive. Primanti's outdoor dining area is right across the street from their dumpsters though. Picture I took this past weekend:

^ Apparently the "HERE" has been renamed to the "Maxxen". It looks massive compared to its surroundings -

Looks like Core wants to replace the Days Inn (and mad mex) with a decent sized building. Can't say I wouldn't be a bit on the sad side, because that's where I stay with my dogs when I head back to PSU. It would, however, be a better use of the space than the hotel with its parking areas, it would be way more dense up there. The hotel is quite ragged these days, I stayed there in July, and it really is showing its age.

The hope was to start construction in the summer of 2020, with plans to open the hotel in the summer of 2021. COVID-19 and the pandemic got in the way, delaying the project.

During a Feb. 7 borough council meeting, Songer(developer) offered an update on the project and asked the council to consider the proposed Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance Draft Ordinance and District Boundaries to help support the project.

“We are working hard to bring the Bellefonte Waterfront Project to fruition. We are making progress. COVID slowed us down and still is having an impact on the project, as it has on many projects throughout the country,” Songer said.

So if you try to book the Days Inn any time this summer or later, it says the hotel is not available. Seems to me it is closing down.
