She isn't the "new girlfriend". She's been around for at least 5 years.

Candidates should be required to live in their riding.

I wonder if many of the voters in Elmwood are aware that Steen no longer plays for the Jets or whether they know the Jets no longer play here?

^^^ I though the exact same thing. He offers the city of Winnipeg nothing in terms of ideas or vision to better anything. The city needs term limits.

.......thank god Lilian Thomas retired, her and Harvey are in the same mold. Doesn't he live in his office or something which i thought i heard was a closet (like the guy with the stapler in office space)

Ol' Harve, reppin' D-Mac hard again. Purple drank!

...at least Lillian is gone. I no longer have the miserable sensation of fire burning through my veins when I consider our city council. One useless Smith is okay.

What? Really? He had a really nice house on Stanford Bay in Tuxedo. I'm surprised that someone would trade Tuxedo for Transcona. Must be downsizing.

The provinces, combined, actually bring in more tax revenue than the federal government (but maybe that is because municipalities are technically part of the provincial government and their revenues are included?). We're one of the few countries that is like that. The US federal government plays with more money than all their states and territories combined.

I agree that provincial governments should be strengthened though. The federal level should be more of a unifying framework to help the provinces work together better, not some sort of overlord power than controls everything.

Union leaders make tonnes of money and represent "the oppressed proletariat" well enough to bankrupt corporations. I'm sure they'll be "represented" just fine. I live in the poorest ward in my city and almost everyone who ever runs for ward councillor here lives in a tiny neighbourhood that is only part of our ward to make the population numbers add up right. They never even come to my part of the ward, unless it is to buy a building for cheap and become a slumlord.

Poor ol' Thomas Steen ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer, apparently he lost a lot of money in poor investments so the pay of a city councilor looks pretty good to him right now.
