On June 17, there was a post in the Journal of Commerce that lists the start date as December, 2014, with January, 2016 completion.

It also lists the project scope as 20 storeys, as Cyro had mentioned in a post on this thread on June 18.

However, last week, on June 25, the Winnipeg Free Press reported the start date as July 17, with occupancy starting in the fall of 2015 and continuing into 2016.

The sidebar on the article lists the project details as 24 storeys.

I'm hoping what the developer told the Free Press was accurate, but wouldn't be shocked if it was pushed back yet again.

I do have doubts about the occupancy date listed in the Free Press. When I bought a unit in March 2013 they told me construction would take 18 months from start to finish. That seemed a bit improbable then, but even more so now that it's taken so long to get off the ground.

Plus, a friend of mine bought in The Oz, which is apparently at least 14-16 months behind schedule. Seems to be par for the course.

Does anyone know anything else about this?

In this city it would take an act of god to get done in under 2 years unless it was public money like the convention center which seems to be one of the fastest builds I have seen in this city.

Reason I say this is I am currently involved in a certain 32 unit condo project and it's been 24 months and still not done. And I can promise you it wasn't because of funds . So I hate to think what a 20-24 story condo project would be like with funding issues and red tape issues ( wasn't there a hydro line under it? ).

But it would be better IMO to have them take their time and build quality over crap. I won't mention which project here , but it is a major one plagued with poor craftsmanship that the tenants are all ready complaining about.

Does this project you speak of happen to be on Portage Avenue?

An email from Sandhu Developments Inc. this morning:

This letter serves as notice that the final foundation permit has been issued by the city of Winnipeg and foundation construction at D Condo will begin the week of July 28, 2014. Underground site servicing has already been completed.

We are preparing to release deposit monies currently held in Pitblado LLP trust. Since deposit insurance is no longer offered by Blanket Home Warranty, we have secured a corporate guarantee, which is the preferred form of security for your deposit.

Your material selections will take place over the next few months. Lynne Dubienski will contact you in regards to this.

Project completion is scheduled for winter 2015.

We are excited about this next phase of development at D Condo and look forward to completing your new home.

5 + months after the projected start date of Jan.2014. Not great but not surprising either for this particular piece of river front property. Patience has to be a virtue for most people following these projects in this City. I do understand the difficulties it causes for those who have invested in units but I hope it will work out well for those that have waited the extra time.

Were there cutbacks made to this project recently in terms of the design or materials used in the construction? Thought the latest estimates came in at $10 million over budget for this project. Charging more per condo instead?

One of the interesting things about D-Condo is road access for vehicles is a little more difficult with the one-way and bike lane in there. Probably be a pain for construction vehicles as well.

A positve post. Thank you Eman.
It distracts me from all the Horror of the Proposed SkyCity project thread and it's utter and impending doom.
