Not that I've been to one, but I believe "warehouse with furniture displays" is the definition of IKEA.

I saw an ad in the Free Press classified section today for a handyman service offering to assemble / instal your Ikea purchase.

Untrue, the North-North end (Old Kildonan) had to cut one of it's lines to get the funds for another -- the 18 Lelia was removed for more service to the 18 Riverbend.

Sorry for being off topic.

That's why I haven't really understood the hype over "shopping" at Ikea. Nice to have one in the city, but a furniture store isn't really a place I'd go "shopping" more than a couple times a year.

Agree. When going to Ikea in Ottawa, I try to get there before 10 am in order to beat the weekend crowds. Morning is much more tolerable crowd wise.

It wasnt too busy tonight - either for the restaurant, or for the whole store as me and my friend decided to look around before my shift for any deals!

And to also poke fun at the cute little carrot kids teddy-like things

Don't you guys LOVE having an SSP insider?

its not really furniture only, its decor, bedding, storage, kitchen ware, candles, dog toys, frames

90% of the shoppers are buying non-furniture items

i myself go about once a month to buy the 100 pack of tealights

they bring in new fabric designs every season plus seasonal things like xmas summer fall etc.

if you're into home design than you'd get it i guess, its just a place where you can get ideas

The gay in me enjoys wandering around furniture stores and making a mental list of all the shit I'd buy to decorate my house, if I had one.

The straight in me is tired of that shit and just wants to go home and eat junk food.

Not gonna touch that one Vid, did go to IKEA tonight, parking lot packed but surprisingly enough the store never felt crowded. Actually surprised at some of the pricing, seemed to be a lot of good deals.

the sale starts soon if not already started - sometimes they bring in fake sale items - they don't exist in the catalogue but they have prices that seem to be marked down from a non-existant regular price... bought a TV stand once that was like that

I do not have any offical information to back this up but recall hearing that sales have been lower than initial projections. Speculation is the horrors of the IKEA traffic affect may be at play.

The majority if times I've been there its been insanely busy. Considering its a private company you're not gonna get any kind of actual numbers from them.

I walked into Ikea for my shift tonight, and the place was DESERTED. I mostly blame the Winnipeg effect though: store/place opens, huge hype, dies down badly. Example: Portage Place

So lemme guess. The debbie downers are going to flock here and start proclaiming it's a failure and the store will close within 2 years. Oh and it's because Winnipeg sucks, right?

Countdown for this to start happening in 3,2,1.............................

They could at least run a transit route to it that operates more than every 45-72 minutes, so poor carless people such as myself can go there and buy things
