There was a picture of the rifle of the ground on VOCM. I'm pretty sure it was an AK-47. I blame the Mount Pearl Mafia. haha

It was an AK, but no word on whether it was actually an automatic or not... they're commonly converted to semi auto (like M16s/AR15s), and when so modified are actually legal and considered an unrestricted firearm (provided magazine capacity is under a certain size). Still some scary shit though. The house that was targeted is actually directly behind my coworker's.

That being said, I can't help but laugh at the morons that hit the wrong house... I immediately thought of the scene from "Snatch" where the guys are preparing to hold up the Bookie and one of them shows off the gun they're going to use for it:

RNC searching for St. John's stabbing suspect

A man who was stabbed on a St. John's street overnight is recovering in hospital with what police describe as serious injuries.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called to Frecker Drive shortly after 1:30 a.m., where a 37-year-old man was assaulted.

The suspect had fled the area on foot.

Police said the stabbing victim's life is not at stake, and that officers believe that the victim and the accused were not known to each other.

In a statement, the RNC said that the suspect is described as a black male with a foreign accent, and is between 5'11" and 6' tall, and has an "afro" hairstyle.

At the time of the offence, the suspect was believed to have been wearing a green army-style jacket and dark pants.

No arrests have yet been made.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a black man with an afro in St. John's. Not too many people fit that description around here

I know eh? People on VOCM news comments have already mentioned that the guy lives in Cowan Heights and they've seen him around a few times. Probably won't be long until he's caught.

I find that so infuriating.

At minimum, we're bringing people over here and not providing the support they need. Assuming he has no mental illnesses, etc. - how did he get here and end up in circumstances that would necessitate this type of attack? Does he need food? Shelter? Money? Drugs? What? We can debate what conditions we want to put in place for newcomers we bring here - but once they're here, they're us. We can't be having people that vulnerable falling through the cracks.

There are bad people too, bad people from here and bad people from away ... random stabbing .. I have zero pity for him .. no matter where he came from ... you don't do that here.. if he's messed up and needs help .. we have many many many programs and institutions to help people and he can access it just like anyone else ..

I understand people "fall through cracks" but come on .. he stabbed someone that was just walking down the street We live in Newfoundland not in Latin America or Africa .. there's help and support for people here if they want to access it

I just think... if he has internal problems that caused this, then he never should've been allowed to come here. If he has external problems... we can't expect a newcomer to be able to find these sorts of supports on their own. We have to help.

I agree, and that's why we have organizations like association for new Canadians.

Guy stabs someone on the street and it's the system's fault? No, it's the guy's fault.

It's the guy's fault... the system is a preventative measure.

I heard a guy was pulled over on the outer ring road lat night doing speeds in excess of 107 km/h. It was later discovered that he had about $60 worth of unpaid parking tickets..

What's this city coming to? Crime is definitely at a high right now.

Townie shagged up a number, it seems. Or... you know... that's still speeding, technically.

I hope this post wasn't intended to be disparaging. I perceived it as such.
