San Diego International Airport (SAN). The eastern end of the runway is across the street from the northernmost edge of downtown (Little Italy neighborhood), and approximately 1 mile from the center of downtown.
The close proximity is exciting for passengers and planespotters on the ground, but it also means a 500 foot height restriction for all buildings downtown. Approaches to this airport are best on the left-hand side of the plane, where you are level with the buildings just before landing.
