416 Main Street | Winnipeg | 28 floors | ~90 meters | Canceled

Pretty big development, figured that warrants the creation of its own thread.

Good idea. This project definitely deserves a thread of its own.

For what it's worth, even though the site is blocked off and PCL fencing is still up from the geotechnical phase, there is no construction taking place nor has any kind of formal project announcement been made (other than a presentation to a council committee).

Yeah I saw that, I marked it as proposed in the thread title. However, once approval/construction commences, a moderator can change the thread title accordingly.

Just to condense what has been proposed for the site in question as of 06/25/2013 :

A 28-storey hotel-condo building could rise on the site from which sprang the city's historic-building movement.

The proposed development at 416 Main St., shown to city councillors on the civic downtown development, heritage and riverbank management committee on Monday, would see 237 hotel rooms and 30 condo units taking up the top six floors, a full-service restaurant and 40,000 square feet of office space.

2nd image of proposed tower(as per above)

Thx for the new thread update Chad.

Free Press article from a couple weeks back. Condos are on sale to the public now. I guess Asper's buddies weren't buying enough space so they had to go public (some sarcasm, but not all of it).
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/loc...221899531.html

The tower is now called "One Portage and Main". Website is here:
http://oneportageandmain.ca/

As TV mentioned, they're still using some of the rendering they had produced, along with some stock photos. On the website it even mentions that images are for representation only. Creswin does, however, have a display suite setup. Photos are on the website.

Yeah, haven't heard anything more than what's been discussed. Guess they're in a holding pattern until it's either a go or no go. Or scaled back go.

We all know it's dead already but, it's not quite dead yet????

Plans for tower at Portage and Main put on hold

That sales effort is now on hold while Creswin retools the economics behind the project, said Gary Bachman of Century 21 Bachman & Associates.

"The interest was there. The costs just need to come down," Bachman said Tuesday in an interview. "We've been told to wait until everything is straightened out."

Asper said via email Creswin stills hope to build One Portage & Main. "We're assessing the results of due diligence thus far and doing some further leg work. It takes time," he said. "These types of development can go through many permutations before they become real..."

This video Sounds fitting...Python-Not Dead Yet??

Maybe this will end in a good news story when they re asses and decide on a 8 storey tower instead, wait Aspers involved Never Mind.
