I can't believe this doesn't already exist but this pipeline would be mutually beneficial to North Atlantic, the Transshipment facility and the province.
Agree ....

Agreed. I hope this doesn't face too much opposition. A 2.5km overland pipeline is quite straight forward in AB/SK, let's hope for the same here. Fingers crossed.

Mine Potential on West Coast

Interesting article from the CBC. There's a big market for this product, an investment that could be worth its salt.

Looks like we're the only CMA with stagnant growth. Most all other CMAs have experienced growth around 1.5-2.0% YoY. Halifax has done a great job with growing it's population in the past few years, so has Moncton CMA.

Well 2600 people left St. John's for other provinces between 2018-2019:

Yes, that's quite significant. To put it in perspective Montreal CMA (population over 4 million) saw a net interprovincial migration of -3,325. However, this stat only tells a part of the story. Our births to deaths difference is +200 and we saw an increase of over 1,100 in immigration among a few others. But the -2,600 interprovincial migration is the biggest factor. There's a lot of negativity and uncertainty around the economy and Muskrat Falls that makes the situation very unfortunate. But overall not really surprising.

I feel that the ownership changing to Irving is a positive thing.

Regardless of what people think of the Irving brothers and their businesses, the refinery in NB is a stable and well maintained site, especially relative to many similar sized operations in Western Canada.

Fingers crossed the majority of existing site staff (engineers, technologists, trades, etc.) are kept on.

That's the rub tho' isn't it. Will they be kept on?

I hope I'm wrong, but I see them closing it within 2 years if the purchase goes ahead. Irving's SJNB refinery has 3 times the output of C-b-C.
Do they need a big refinery and a small one in NL, or do they want to eliminate the competition?

GovNL should get certainly get a guarantee that it stays open before the purchase goes ahead. Even then there are always loopholes,
i.e. global demand is drying up, infrastructure there too costly to upgrade.

The optimist in me wants to believe Irving will keep it open.

To the best of my knowledge, Come by Chance started refining crude from Offshore NL a few years ago and have been doing some pretty heavy-handed refits since 2014 to increase their capacity for lighter and sweeter oils.

The %mix of crude from Offshore Canada going into the Irving NB refinery is quite low so perhaps Come by Chance will be viewed as a way to expand their constraints on import sources.

Didn't the previous company that owned it do a bunch of upgrades to it? It would be weird for Irving not to utilize it imo...

So apparently the deal fell through and the refinery is permanently closing:

A little bit of confusion around the reporting of this story. It looks like now that talks are still ongoing??? Premier Furey posted a tweet out about it (linked in the article).
