Et voila... HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 1, 2013

(And yes, I crawled on my hands and knees to find an angle where that lamp perfectly blocked out the blank wall of the old Fortis Building).

I like the one with the three people, who look freezing just from their stances.

Thanks guys!

When I first read PoscStudent's comment, I couldn't tell if he liked them or if he was saying they're too edited. And I was going to say: Hey, , I promise they're not that edited. And they're not! Increased the contrast and made them a little brighter but it really was that colourful.

Responding to a conversation in the Canada section about cities that never sleep versus those that do, I realized why typing out my two cents that we're actually busier than I thought, especially for such a small city:

So George Street and surrounding areas of Duckworth, New Gower, and Water streets remain very active until at least 4 a.m. But the rest of the city shuts down early. Even the largest malls close at 10 p.m. on weeknights. The after-work rush is completely clear (except for traffic) by 7 p.m. and most of the city looks almost deserted by 11 p.m.

There's always a few people around downtown, though - and we have some absolutely fantastic 24-hour restaurants. Thalamh an Éisc (this is how you say "Newfoundland Irish" in Newfoundland Irish, a now extinct language - in the 2001 census, only 10 Newfoundlanders reported it as their mother tongue) or Celtic Hearth on Water Street is one of the best pubs with one of the best kitchens in the city and it's open 24/7.
I knew there was a reason I came back here. Hehehe...

downtown is always busy no matter the day or the time .. a lot of the time it's busier (or just as busy as daytime) at 1am-5am then at 6 people are going to the gym or some stuff is starting to get ready to open for the day

A friend's FB status (she's in the local media, was at provincial court today):

"Is there anything classier than a salt ring on the cuff of your dress pants? Home to change!"

lol

120 people have posted on the thread since the beginning and 11 have over 100 posts. I am first because I've been posting for almost 4 years.

Off topic, it's a lovely sunny day here in Van, 6C or more.

6 degrees? I'd take it. Day 2 of -15 degrees here in ch'town. Weather office promised me last night that it was supposed to warm up to -5 overnight. Then I woke up this morning and it was still -15. Why would weather office lie to me?
