It's not the only choice. The Delta and Marriott are 4 star hotels and there are smaller hotels that would be 4 star and higher.

The Delta is 3.5* and the Marriott is 3* according to any travel website I've ever seen. Only Canada Select states otherwise, listing the Delta as 4*, the Marriott at 3.5* and the Sheraton at 4.5*. At any rate, I was only talking about hotels, and there is still a definite gap in the luxury segment in this city. I don't think anybody would consider the Delta or the Marriott to be luxury hotels.

I guess their ratings all depend on the website.

There would not likely be enough demand for a large luxury hotel.

I don't think I'd consider the Hotel NFLD to be a luxury hotel either. I'd pick the Delta anyday. Maybe someone will eventually do something proper with the Barrtey Hotel (tear it down and build a luxury one there!)

On the Pleasantville development I was over there yesterday and there is lots of action on single family homes and on one of the larger development (Bennet??) It is going to be a great change for that area.

Once the DND building is complete are all the remaining old DND facilities on the site going to be demolished? There are only a few left and they are definitly the worst looking things in the area.

As well, although not posted on this thread, the RNC building on Harvey has been going through some significant renovations and expansion. If any one ventures around that area, it be great to get some snaps of the progress.

I suppose I could do that sometime. I live a block away and can see it from my bedroom.

We did have something posted a long time ago, here is the rendering of it.

There is also a construction photo at this site.

And this should be in Central , not East End.

Just the main thread, no?

Right, just the main thread for anything that doesn't fit anywhere else.
I think it's ok to have some overlap, that seems to happen everywhere.

I noticed today that the ground has been cleared and site development is ongoing behind Boston Pizza on Stavanger Drive. That's the site of a new hotel development, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure, not much space though.

I just found a PDF of the Harvey Power Centre (Stavanger Drive/Aberdeen Ave extension). I think this may have been posted previously in the general thread, but I think it's a good idea re-post here.

http://www.comproperty.ca/powercentr...eyBrochure.pdf

If you look closely you'll see that GAP, Stokes, Golf-town, and Dollarama have retail units purchased here. I wonder if GAP is planning on moving its store from the Avalon Mall or opening another location. GAP also owns Banana Republic - it'd be great to get a BR in St. John's.

I haven't been in that area for a while now. Does anyone know the status of the HPC development?

Cool...thanks for sharing. I agree that would be good to get a BR there. I think we are going to start seeing some infilling of the existing Stavanger Area. I've heard that new buildings are planning for the Zellers parking lot and I recently saw some geotechnical work going in out in front of Wal-Mart.

Yeah, really!?!?!?!?!

Below is a link to the Field Power Centre (adjacent to HPC). There are already a few lots sold next to the Empire Theatres site. There's also restaurant sites with only two lots remaining... interesting
