ALT Hotel | 5 floors| ?m |U/C

Here we go folks! Something else to keep us busy until a nice high-rise project comes around the corner. Haha.

Been dying to see some renderings, although they don't provide the best picture of how it will look with everything around it. Still, it is better than nothing (which is what I've seen so far!)

There are also some schematics on the city's website agenda and minutes PDFs.

Thanks for this!

Not sure if that shows a new/ modified proposal for Temperance Street, but hope something finally gets started there regardless.

Also - I prefer the first option for the annex building, but whatever. I think we should elect or appoint someone with a background in planning and architecture / design to make these decisions. Seems the decision process is pretty arbitrary.

Pretty sure that Temperance Street development has died.

Re: ALT Hotel, I was standing on the corner of Water St. and Prescott St. the other day and noticed that the view of the narrows will soon be gone! Oh well, the price of progress.

Here's a picture I took today to show recent progress. It's clearly visible above the fencing now. Also, this is my first post here.

Seems like your pictures are not showing up for some reason. Welcome to the forum, by the way!

I drove by the site this morning and it was a beehive of activity, there was a flatbed offloading steel and two more waiting in line to offload as well. There is now some steel structure visible above the Water St. level and I expect the pace will soon pick up. I didn't have time to snap a pic today but I hope to be back there in a day or two and provide an update.

A few pics from today. The pace seems to have picked up!!

You can't really see it in this picture but there is a nice setback from Water St, maybe 30 or 40 feet. Should make it a little less imposing.

Thanks.

I've been hosting my pics on Dropbox. Any recommendations on a more foolproof image hosting service for this forum?

You can try tinypic or Imgur. Tiny pic is a little cumbersome as you have to upload them individually. It might be different if you sign up and make an account. I usually just do the individual upload - it's not that big of a deal if you're only posting pics every once and a while.

I use photobucket, has a good interface and is easy to use, provides all the links needed to post to this forum, etc.

Alt Hotel now offering rooms with a view in St. John's

Here's an article written about the new ALT hotel:

CBC News
November 30, 2017

Quote:
With historic Cabot Tower and a view through the Narrows as a back drop, members of the Germain family showed off their newest hotel in St. John's Wednesday.

It's the 14th Alt Hotel for the family-owned chain, but just the second in Atlantic Canada.

"We are legit coast to coast," said Mark Schaay, a general manager with Groupe Germain Hotels.

"Some people stop at Halifax, but St. John's, that's the true coast to coast."
