It's probably a matter of public record if you go down to PPD on Fort St. If the date for objections is passed you won't be able to file an objection thought.

The word "camera" for the picture taking device is actually referring to the dark chamber in which the film was located. The sessions can't be recorded because that increases the risk of sensitive information being leaked.

In Camera sessions are required by law for any sensitive issues, such as legal matters and development proposals where the developer doesn't want any competitors to know what they're doing, but they must discuss the project with city council. It's a very strictly controlled process to prevent abuse. Decisions cannot actually be made In Camera, any motions related to it must be made in a public sessions, though sometimes those motions can be vague, if necessary to protect sensitive information.

I don't know how common it is in Manitoba, but my city has In Camera sessions fairly often. A few of our city's council meetings have almost entirely been held In Camera, with council only coming out of the meeting room at the very end of the meeting to vote on what they discussed and then motioning to end the meeting. I went to one meeting once where they alternated between In Camera and public sessions every few minutes for about an hour, it pissed people off (including council members who had to carry all of their computers and paperwork back and forth repeatedly) but it's necessary in some cases.

It is pathetic that Mayor Atch didn't even attend the SUMA convention in Regina --- especially when he's the mayor of SK's largest city.

He'll be voted out come fall.

That is the general feeling out there.

He chose to attend the local King of Kovbasa sausage festival instead. Because, you know, the Mayor can't be everywhere at the same time.

It's not a swamp or a marsh or anything remotely like that, it's an area of scrub bush prone to flooding in wet years, that area was as dry as can be until the rainy years awhile back changed that when runoff is diverted to there. Actually that land was built on at one time, there are foundations of what were homes there once.

On another note, the start of this thread back in 2011 is an interesting read when it comes to the naming of this thread...

^ I thought the title was a pretty clever play on words, but I would imagine some people look at it and conclude that we just don't know how to say espresso properly

The whole City of Winnipeg is built on swamps. Parker "Wetlands" as it's become known, have some frogs living there and some milkweed. The frogs will be saved and the milkweed relocated. Most of the frogs are located closer to Parker Ave. The transitway will be further north.

Its low ground where some water sits in the spring. This isn't Oak Hammock Marsh here. People are more upset they're losing greenspace, not necessarily the "wetlands". Don't forget Hydro owns a large amount of the land and it will be maintained in a similar condition as it is now. So there will still be lots of greenspace out there.

^ Clearly it's nothing more than a garden variety NIMBY attack on a project cloaked in self-righteous eco-warrior environmental crisis language.

Why fight it this way when there are so many other ways to fight it

I still don't agree with the alignment and would fight it on that account, but for the "wetlands", nope.
