Those windows were a mistake. They should have increased the massing all the way up with limestone in place of those giant windows while adding the normal sized windows. Throw a cornice on top and call it day.

The whole thing is absurd. How in the hell a developer squanders a site like this was a short banal stump of a building is beyond me.

Aside from the fact it looks like the base to an unfinshed much taller highrise?

Looks like we could FINALLY get something on the vacant lot at 5440 N. Sheridan Road- and it'll vaguely be a TOD. Anyone have any renderings on this?

Quote:
After multiple attempts to develop the lot at 5440 N. Sheridan Road started and stopped over the years, Cedar Street Companies has a plan to build a 4.5-story building there with 78 residential units and 27 parking spots, according to Ald. Harry Osterman (48th).

Cedar Street plans to detail the project and answer questions at a community open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at nearby St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church, 5649 N. Sheridan Rd.

I don't know I think that building looks better in person, the limestone is quite handsome. The only problem is the weird walls they put around the base. They mixed limestone with the cheapest looking park aluminum railing they could find. They should of done the walls with limestone only, and it would look alot better. The massive stone endcaps with flimsy looking aluminum railings look like crap. That's just sloppy design.

Steppenwolf Expansion

So glad to see this project is finally happening! Had nearly forgotten about it.

Really wish I had some idea of what's going in there on the ground floor. Besides the Starbucks there have been stories that it would feature a food hall and later a brewpub. The silence and the excruciatingly slow pace of construction is just aggravating my curiosity.

Columbia College Student Center

Looks like a cafe that's open to the public and a dining hall open only to students inside (didn't confirm though).

I'd like to see them try and stop me from snagging some greasy, college dining hall food. I'm still young looking!

It looks like they have gates you need an id to get through. But maybe you just have to ask!

If you're really craving dining hall food, I think the uchicago dining halls are open to the public.
