CHARLOTTE | The Vue | 677 FT / 206 M | 51 FLOORS

Does anyone have any recent pics of the Vue, going up in Charlotte? I understand that it is supposed to reach 677 feet. I am not sure if that is with the spire that was originally included in earlier renderings. I hope my impatience is forgiven, but I would like regular updates, preferably from someone who either calls the Queen City home or one who frequents the city. Thanx

CHARLOTTE | The Vue | 677 FT / 206 M | 51 FLOORS

Architect: FS Architecture
Contractor: R. J. Griffin & Company
Location: W 5th St. at N Pine St., Charlotte, NC
Construction Timeline: Groundbreaking: April, 2008. Completion: Early 2011

Size and layout:
  • 1.16-acre corner lot
  • 1,095,314 square foot
  • 51 occupied floors
  • Cost: $143.4 million

"The structure of The Vue will have 106 caissions with overlying grade beams and mat foundations prepared to anchor the concrete, two-way post-tensioned superstructure. Below street level the structure will house mechanical and electrical operations, a trash compactor and recycling area, an elevator machine room, a communications room, and the fire pump and emergency generator rooms.

Street level will hold the lobby, conference and board rooms, a business center and offices, an electrical room, and future retail tenant spaces. Floors two and three within the residential tower footprint will include private tenant garage parking, mechanical rooms, and storage rooms. Floors four through seven will feature studio residence units along the Pine Street facade with further private tenant garage parking, all tied directly into an adjacent parking structure level. The eighth floor will feature the health club with yoga and play rooms, a cyber cafe, and a media room, with more studio residence units along Pine Street. Floors nine through 50 will feature one to three bedroom residence units with penthouse units on the 51st floor. Floors 52 and 53 will be the roof with cooling towers.

We will simultaneously build a 144,662 SF, seven-level, 761-car parking deck to the west of the tower that will be tied in on all seven levels. An amenity pool deck will be located on the top, 8th level."

The original plans has two "mantis-like" spires on top which put the height at 677 feet. They were rumored to have cost over a million each and have been scrapped from the latest renderings.

The following are the latest renderings:

Here are two construction photos I took on 9/14/08:

The empty area in the foreground will be the parking deck with the pool/amenities level on top.

I'll post updated construction photos from time to time. If anybody has any additional information & technical specs please add them. Thanks.

You're a hero. Thanks for the update. Looks like they are above ground on about the fourth floor. I vaguely recall that they are planning on about a floor a week. If this is right, it should be more or less finished by this time next year.

I've also updated my initial post with more info on the project.

Trying to get above tree level...

Oh I see it, I see it!

Looks like they can do around a floor every 8 days with good weather.

Sounds like this will wind up being more like 590ft, not 677ft. Either way, it will make for a nice addition to the skyline.

It has been foggy and/or raining for about the last 2 weeks so I don't have any new photos yet. I just had to share this great photo of the Vue by Windsurfer which shows some of the low/midrise density in 4th Ward.

Oh, and the bright looking building near the top right of the photo is under construction Garrison Lofts. It is light blue is because of the insulation which is about to be covered by brick.

Cool. Charlotte is really on a roll. You guys have just about doubled your height in a few years.

I like it. I think with the lowrise residential surrounding it, that it would have looked odd if it was a skinny tower. Plus it continues the street level activity in the area.
