This is Salt Lake City's newest federal courthouse. It's causing a stir among locals for its design and has been nicknamed 'the Borg cube'. I like it.

Renovation always means establishing a relationship of sorts with the past, with the pasts that are accumulated in the space of the intervention. And also with the future, with that imaginary idea of the place we would like to tend towards. But above all it means a great capacity to work with the present.

Indoor Architecture
Raphael Vinoly's overhaul of the Cleveland Art Museum opens.

Cleveland’s Museum of Art recently completed a ten-year long renovation and addition project, restructuring the campus of attached buildings into a more cohesive whole and adding an expansive, sweeping glass canopy. Originally composed of a neoclassical building built circa 1916, the museum added onto the original facilities throughout the past several decades.

The Library of Kunming University of Science and Technology \ Studio Twist
David K. • April 26, 2014

The Library of Kunming University of Science and Technology designed by Studio Twist opened In January 2012. This library is regarded as the symbolic center of the university campus. The building form resembles stacked cubes on a plinth with bi-axial symmetry and a vertical central atrium. The central circular atrium serves as the spiritual center as well as the main vertical circulation of the library.

Within the context of the reinforcement of the tramway line T3, the RATP (transport service Ile-de-France) chose to build their centre of maintenance on the northern part of the Jules Ladoumègue stadium; the southern part with its field, grandstands (tribunes) and gym called Pagode – remains unchanged.

New Animated LED Pixilated Facade For Hanwha’s Headquarters By UNStudio
By: Marija Bojovic | April - 30 - 2014

UNStudio has been chosen to remodel and renovate Hanwha’s headquarters building – the facade, the interior of the common spaces, lobbies, meeting levels, auditorium and executive areas, along with the redesign of the landscaping. Several important variables were required to be incorporated into the redesign, most essentially the surroundings, nature and the environment. Their concept for the project resulted in the design of a responsive facade which prioritizes and integrates groups of key parameters: program – exterior and interior, indoor climate and environmental considerations.

Housing in Vienna \ 3XN
David K. • May 1, 2014 • Comments (0)

3XN has won an international competition for a residential development in the heart of Vienna. With a design that gently fits into the neighborhood, but also with its own expression and identity; 3XN’s proposal was chosen as the winner by a unanimous jury.

Mediatheque Mont-de-Marsan by Archi5
May 05, 2014
Text by Peter Smisek

Located in the grounds of a former barracks in the French municipality Mont-de-Marsan, Archi5’s new mediatheque – a sleek, glass box resting on a low mound – quickly became the talk of the town. We caught up with Thomas Dryjski, one of the firm’s associate partners, to discover more about the project.

LAN Architecture | Offices Lille
Posted by editor on May 9, 2014 in Architecture

The Euravenir Tower project occupies the last free parcel of Phase One of the Euralille Area, which began in 1998 with OMA’s project built in association with François Delhays.

Is it possible to reassert a city through an architectural project?

This bold question was the starting point for the project’s layout. The parcel’s strategic position, located at the intersection of different axes, pushed our research towards a sophisticated solution that acts as a hub, as a stitch that brings together the elements gravitating around it. We strove for a “multiform” architecture whose geometry could provide a specific response to the various challenges tied to the project’s scale, geography, and program.

Winterthur Station Square by Stutz Bolt Partner
Sculpting Urban Transparency
May 08, 2014
Text by Peter Smisek

The large canopy looming over the Winterthur bus terminal – designed by the local outfit Stutz Bolt Partner – is both a bold, stripped down sculpture and an impressive feat of Swiss engineering. Yet, despite the building’s aesthetic rigor, the space around it feels transparent and liberated, as it allows the surrounding urban tissue to form a seamless continuum.

Cornell Tech

In Architecture

Universities are integral to a society increasingly turning towards innovation as a source of growth. With the flexibility and resources to undertake experimental research across the arts and sciences, these institutions have a powerful potential to make discoveries that will influence the way we live, work, and interact. Interfacing with policy makers, companies, and communities facilitates the real-world application of the research performed at these institutions and fosters an environment of collaboration and exchange.

MKPL Architects Pte Ltd | Orchard Suites
Posted by editor on May 18, 2014 in Concept & Competition

Situated at a prime location in downtown Orchard Road of Singapore, Orchard Suites stands out amongst the crowd of high rise residential development around by its unique and innovative ‘skin’ architecture. Disadvantaged by an extremely small site, and with a desire to bring high rise living to a new green benchmark, an extremely sinuous and diaphanous skin is created to modulate the climate to achieve thermal comfort without resorting to the constant use of the air-conditioner.

The Grand Mosque of Algiers
by KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten Gmbh as Architects

At present, the world’s third largest mosque is soon to be erected in the bay of Algier. The mosque brings together various cultural and religious facilities. All main buildings in the mosque complex share a plinth that is in places up to 5 m high; on this raised plateau, they are aligned from west to east in the direction of Mecca. Within the complex they form two groups: in the west the place for contemplation, with entrance arcades, cultural center, and minaret, and in the east the place of congregation for up to 35,000 faithful. A spacious park leads from the mosque complex to the buildings in the south, namely the cultural centre, the library and the Imam School.
