Can you tell me more about those Taylor, Ragan and McGee Buildings in Union Hill? Are they condos? market-rate apartments? low-income housing? They're rather nice, and I'm impressed by the stately and traditional designs.

They are market-rate apartments, all built by developer Bob Frye.
He's been slowly developing the Union Hill neighborhood since 1987. Redeveloping vacant lots, I should say, as the neighborhood has a small but nice collection of historic Victorian homes not seen in many other parts of town. This is the final phase which includes 181-units in five buildings, plus 13 single family homes. The stone-clad Taylor, Ragan, and a similar under-construction Campbell building are 23 units each, ranging in rent from $1,245 to $1,995 a month (1BR & 2BRs). These are apparently modeled after apartments in Chicago's Lincoln Park. The brick McGee building and another soon to start construction McCoy building are 56-units each ranging in rent from $850 to $1,810 monthly (studio, 1BR & 2BRs).

Story here.

Leasing website w/ more details of all the buildings here.

I agree they look great, especially the stone-clad buildings. The brick ones are nice too, and they have uplighting installed that makes them really shine at night.

Proposed office tower

A local developer has released renderings for a proposed 25-floor class A office tower for a surface parking lot directly north of the Sprint Center arena. The developer has said that the building will not be speculative, so they are just marketing the site in hopes to land a major tenant at this point. Exciting, nonetheless, since job growth and reduced office vacancy downtown has ushered in smaller new office projects and hopefully larger ones like this are not far behind!

Talking Smart City

Also, apparently Kansas City is the choice of the first major Smart City in the US.

Pretty exciting time to be living here! I'm originally from Louisville, KY and nothing ever happened out there. They are getting a new convention hotel as well though.

We finally realized what a cool small city we live in, that we should aim to be more like Minneapolis, MN than Minneapolis, KS, that we live in a place that could be the place we all want to live, with just a little work and a little more more pride.

Photos of Hyatt convention hotel model

They had a massing model on display at the official announcement for the Hyatt convention hotel project on Monday. It's the white tower, obviously. The other white structures adjacent to it are the existing Municipal Auditorium and the Bartle Hall convention center and ballroom complex which span the I-670 highway.

Commerce Tower renderings

Renderings of the under construction renovation of the Commerce Tower were released. The downtown 32-story tower, built in 1964, will feature a mix of uses including 342 market-rate residential units in addition to some office, educational, and retail space. The CVS store that exists in the ground floor of the attached garage will also see a major overhaul / upgrade as part of this project.
Commerce Tower sits on Main Street along the under construction streetcar line and will have a station at it's doorstop. The booming rental market downtown has seen several projects snatch up underutilized or vacant office space, shrinking available supply. As the downtown job growth has now been ticking up, we are starting to see demand for new office projects as well.

Rending of a New Kansas City

Okay, so I've tried and tried to get into KCRAG.com with no luck so I guess I'll just start contributing here. I hadn't had time to prefect these but these are what are proposed, planned, under construction in and around the P&L and convention center area of downtown Kansas City.

and just for fun if Cerner and DST started building downtown...

Yellow models

Are the yellow "proposed" buildings real proposals or just ideas that you came up with yourself?
