Senate Dems call on Port Authority to sell real estate

Quote:
Democrats who control the New Jersey Senate want the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to sell real estate that's not used for transportation to fund a rail tunnel connecting the state with Manhattan.

Speaking Tuesday during a news conference at Newark Penn Station, Senate President Steve Sweeney said the proceeds from selling assets like the World Trade Center could generate up to $3 billion.

Mr. Sweeney wants the money to go toward Amtrak's Gateway tunnel project. He says the sale would send a message that the agency is serious about fixing transportation infrastructure.

A message seeking comment from the Port Authority was not immediately returned.

The announcement comes a day after the Senate failed to override Gov. Chris Christie's veto of a bill that would have given the legislature more influence over the agency.

The view from the top of One World Trade Center is really quite nice

Quote:
Offices in the One World Trade building have been occupied since late 2014, and have already weathered a rat infestation – but the viewing platform on the uppermost floor of the building is yet to open its doors to the public.

Due to be the highest skyscraper viewing platform in the western hemisphere, the One World Trade Centre Observatory will open at some point this spring. Covering the top three levels of the tower, it'll include video installations, a theatre, restaurants, and, of course, panoramic views over Manhattan.

I don't think I've ever quite felt this about any other building, but 1WTC has an almost renderesque/photoshopped look to it on the skyline (a good thing). It looks quite surreal in some instances, and with some of the photographs posted, they could easily be passed off as renders. I really think this is a timeless design. It looks really. really. good.
