I need maybe a 3 ft replica of this one. It's so perfect, and perfect for this city, which is also important. Unfortunately, it's a little overshadowed by taller buildings, but this one is remarkable.

And another look at the final piece being put into place...

The installation of the final apex brings @53w53 to its height of 1,050 feet, officially becoming the seventh tallest building in New York City.

^so awesome, and quite the milestone. i was up in midtown for work a couple times in the past few weeks and this is even more gorgeous in person, both at street level and while observing from buildings nearby. what a worthy addition to the skyline.

That's probably the greatest set of photos that have ever been posted on SSP. I am at a loss for words.

Great pics! Wonderful photo memories of the true topping out and this tower has turned out as glorious in reality as in the renderings!

This tower was quite the journey. I'm so happy with the results.

It's especially sweet considering the long road we took to getting here. This was actually the first proposal of the new wave of supertall towers that have taken over the skyline. It paid a price, but still turned out beautiful.

those topping off shots are just stunning — yes what a long road it has been.

these are from yesterday after work — eastside in the rain:

very cool to see it behind Pelli's first MoMA tower, which I never really liked but is neat to see in the context of Nouvel's spike

It's even perfect for the rain.

Just adding these photos for contrast of the final enclosure/topping out.

I have to say, I'm a little emotional looking at those pictures. Eleven years guys. I love art and sports and movies and food. But the payoffs there happen in minutes or hours. Loving architecture is a completely different beast. The payoffs sometimes take more than a decade. We wait for nothing less than the slow change in geography, made permenant with dynamite and concrete and steel and glass. It's entertainment for the gods.

Ya' done good men. Ya' done good.

What a gem! Nouvel's tower pays homage to the NYC spires of the late twenties and early thirties when the skyline changed so dramatically. Here we are again today seeing such a change. It is just to bad that Amanda Burden was able to shorten such an iconic symbol of NYC architecture. But still an awesome tower!
