Cool, I hadn't heard that and haven't been down to the city in awhile. I'll be there tomorrow and will try to check it out. Thanks!

^^^The superstructure is definitely rising. It's a lot more already up from what the FB page indicates.

Wow, after something like 4 years of digging, steel rises above the ground. A milestone!! And also a testament to union labor

Seems like they might top out the steel in segments. It goes from rail, to lower concourse, to ground, to retail, to bus, to park...although I can't yet tell if this is at the retail mezzanine or if that is already the bus level. Either way, it looks like it is on its way to the top by the end of December so the cranes can move to the next segment.

Yeah because some other guys with much less training, lower pay and no job security could have done it so much faster. Mmmhm.

from yesterday. it was the first time I had been close by the site since the above-ground structure was significantly visible, and in person, I am not sure why, it appears larger than I had envisioned it.

looking west from the south side, into the winter afternoon sun:

looking east from the north side. (it's a shame the terminal will be flanked on each side by what amounts to a back alley that serves as the access for buildings' vehicles. I think it would be nice if the ground floor could connect and interact better with its surroundings)

this is from the little roof seating area next to 535 Mission, so looking south:

looking east from the far northwest corner of the site:

I'll post this is the 535 Mission thread too, but here is the new access passageway (and its public art) between Mission St and the terminal, adjacent to 535. looking north from the terminal toward Mission:

Timbad, or in this case, "Timgood". Thank you for your photos. They are great!

Hadn't seen this before but it looks like 535 Mission will also connect directly to the rooftop park..That makes 3 office buildings so far (535, Salesforce Tower, & 181 Fremont) That should really help keep it used.

... Trulia’s office overlooks the Transbay Transit Center project, giving employees a bird’s eye view of the construction. The building will connect to a rooftop park when it’s finished...

And what kind of labor do you do? Should we sacrifice the worker safety and risk slipshod construction that will crumble in a decade (China style), just so db's can get a hard-on sooner?

BTW the pics look great!

There are real problems with cost of unions, that is one of the major limiting factors to the realization of new housing in the bay. Nobody wants to build office buildings in downtown Oakland because rents wouldn't cover the cost of the unions. This is also a factor in why some modern construction looks cheap, because the labor is so expensive that the materials are made to be assembled as quickly as possible. I have no solution to the problem...except to suggest robots.

I sincerely hope that all will continue with many great photos. Although I used to live in SF, I will always yearn to come back, even though my photo doesn't look 76 years old, it is who I used to be when living there. Thank you, wakamesalad for your posts and photos, and for all others who provide the same.
