Who's idea was it to put polished red benches though? I've heard a lot of complaints about existing seats being to slippery, these look treacherous.

They look just like the benches in the Shanghai Metro. I've never found that kind of seat to be too slippery, plus they're obviously incredibly easy to keep clean, which is probably the whole point.

I think there were bigger complaints about the benches with individually formed seats, as people couldn't shuffle up and down to accommodate an especially large or small person.

Thumbs up for having a flat bench seat as it is an improvement over the current 'bucket seat' design that doesn't allow people to slide along the bench to comfortably space themselves. Thumbs down for the bench being hard plastic without any sort of padding. Definitely does not look like a comfortable way to spend 30 minutes on your way downtown.

Honestly, these kind of hard plastic benches aren't as uncomfortable as they look - trust me, I've got lots of experience on that.

Durability and ease of cleaning are far more important to transit agencies than the slight bit more comfort you might get if the seats had a bit of padding.

I really haven't had an issue with the hard plastic benches in the current SD-160 vehicles (some having benches like above, others having individual seats). I mean, this is coming from a healthy guy in his mid-20s, so there are all the caveats that come with that, but it seems like the shape of a seat matters as much as how hard it is.

I'm pretty disappointing they are again using hard plastic seats. Can we at least try to make public transit enjoyable?

The have similar hard benches on the newer trains in NYC, and they are are actually pretty comfortable to sit on. At the end of the day though they are probably much more practical when it comes to cleaning and longevity...."comfort" is pretty far down the line when it comes to a commuter train packed with people. Most people will be standing anyway.

This is definitely the right way to go. I used to ride the subway on a daily basis and never found the hard plastic to be uncomfortable.

Wish they would get rid of the tedious button to open doors but it's still here. Sigh

I understand those that argue closed doors will keep it warmer during winter time but it will only be open for a few seconds anyways so I'd rather be cold for a bit than having to press a stupid button. Just my personal $0.02 probably absolutely nobody agrees on.

That and now since the door arrangement is different from the other cars, there is no possibility for APGs even though there never was in the first place. That was another one of my reasons to want button less doors. That would've meant synchronized doors which could've opened the possibility for APGs. Also, it would've been nice to have fully articulated trains. But no, Calgary Transit is still too behind the times...

Am I asking for too much? Lol
