Aramark and Gov. Wolf to make big announcement

Quote:
Gov. Tom Wolf will join Aramark officials to make a "major announcement" on Monday, sparking speculation that the global food services giant has decided on a new Center City headquarters location.

Wolf's office said the press conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Cira Green on 30th Street, which happens to have a perfect view across the Schuylkill River of 2400 Market Street, a location the company has been considering.

Rendering on Inky that I haven't seen yet. Refers to it as a "scaled back" version. Just more speculation on the announcement.

The actual announcement, with rendering: http://www.philly.com/philly/busines...nter-city.html

Residential component gone. I think it's a nicer and more thoughtful looking building without that piece. I've heard rumors of one other Philadelphia company taking a smaller block of space in here with a retail component as well. We'll see what other details emerge.

I still like it. It's no longer going to create a walling-off effect of the schuylkill. It's still a huge improvement over what is currently there, and I look forward to the activity along the river.

Photo for reference:

Compared to the previous renderings, I'll be the first to say that this redesign truly sucks.

^^^ Since it's PMC, execution of the other design would've sucked anyway. This rendering captures the essence of PMC. What we see is probably the best we can hope to get.

WTF...it went from bad to worse...LOL. Only in Philly do you get a major corporation in a squat building. It should be at least 20 stories high not 20 stories wide...SMH.

It's better than the most recent proposal. I certainly would have rather had a U-shaped tower with a scooped out middle. But - at this location - this is better than a 20-story, uninspired rectangular block that closes off views to the skyline behind it.

Thumbs down

This building doesn't even qualify for its own thread on here based on the # of floors. Feels like a big missed opportunity to me.

I understand the underwhelming response but how is a squat building unique to or even typical of Philadelphia? Not many cities have a 1,000 ft and a 700 ft commercial building going up.

For me, it's better than what is currently there so it's an upgrade for the site.

its definitely better than what is there, especially if they build the promenade, etc. But it's a shame they killed the residential portion. Perhaps Aramark didn't want a mixed use tower. Aramark is obviously going for the visibility of this location. Thousands of drivers per day will see their sign and it will never be obstructed.

True, but I think having their name plastered at the top of one of the highest skyscrapers on Market East is more of statement.
