The last few floors of the building are still dark at night, looks like the mains power haven't gotten up there yet. I would not expect the crown to have any lighting until the mains reach it.

Has anyone actually confirmed that there will in fact be some sort of lighting (as opposed to say, red lights for FAA purposes) on the crown? Or is this mostly speculation that there might be lighting when it's finished?

There will be lighting. But it's still months out if not longer.

I posted the question on their Facebook page, and they said there will be.

Fifth & West, however, hasn't responded to the same question on their FB page.

Great news! Here's to hoping they don't hold back!

If I were them I'd just throw up a literal crown made of neon lights just to troll everyone over how much attention this has gotten

A forum trip to wrap it in Christmas lights sounds in order. White or multi-colored is the question..

I think there's just a bit of disappointment when comparing the end result to the renderings. The white top made it look magical! So an epic save at the end will come, or be lost, in the lighting. The entities and personalities behind this development are here for the long haul so my guess is that the trolling of Austin, while possible, isn't likely

Can't help but to see the potential for an unbelievable lighting component here that will be a game changer for both the building and for the city we love.

Fix the Crown!

Enough people are enough upset about the crown to start a petition to fix the Independent's crown: https://fixthecrown.org/.

I really hope this makes the news, would be hilarious. Also maybe the independent would see it and be like wow I guess we need to do something...

I can't open the address so I don't know the contents, but I didn't realize the crown was broken and needed to be "fixed". Its just ugly and out of place with the rest of the building. I know the petition is tongue in cheek, but if we could petition to remove people and things that are ugly, and actually win, we could solve the traffic problems in Austin.

What the petition is asking is narrow - make the crown look like it is shown in earlier renderings. The site is a bit glitchy, but it opened after I reloaded.

P.S. Wasn't me who started it.

Alterations to the original renders are more than common in Austin, sometimes for the better, sometimes worse. I would ask that we petition 3rd and Shoal while we're at it.

It's really not that different from earlier renders, if at all.

I'd just put a perfect pyramid on top. Would be iconic.

PS. LOVE the shadiness of this petition.
