That's where people like CentrePort need to step up if they're serious. But CentrePort really has no money and are nickle and dime type operation. It's a great idea, but as we've seen over the decades, can be hard to entice the railways in there.

CP will have no interest in paying for overpasses, as they get priority anyways. Unless it becomes a serious safety concern, they'll just carry on and make drivers wait more often.

CN has put a competing bid in for KSC. $33.7 billion vs CP's $29 billion.

Are there any implications for CentrePort if CN wins instead?

No I don't think so. I just posted that here since the previous discussion on CP was here.

There probably wouldn't be much of an impact either way. Both railways already ship to the gulf cost via the existing tracks anyways. I suppose they could get new contracts since they can tout they own the entire line. But really, if something needs to be shipped to Canada, it's already doing that.

It could help to get the rail port being developed either way. Then rail traffic could be consolidated at Centreport, the CP yards could be moved from downtown, all that land would be opened up and developed, the north end would no longer be closed off, and they wouldn’t have to spend millions to replace the Arlington bridge. This requires big picture thinking.

from freepress "Commercial and residential real estate company, Whiteland Developers, has broken ground on a $19-million distribution centre — part of the nearly 250 acres owned by Whiteland at the 20,000-acre CentrePort Canada.

The 100,000-square-foot facility will house Canadian fertilizer business Nutrien, the world’s largest provider of crop inputs and services, which is entering a new lease for 10 acres with Whiteland at CentrePort.

The building is set to finish construction in the fourth quarter of 2021."

Is this happening on the Rosser or Winnipeg side of CentrePort?

I believe it would be the Rosser side. West side of Brookside Blvd is where all the development is currently happening.

Went looking for more info from the Centreport website on the Nutrient development and found this posting from May 18:

https://centreportcanada.ca/centrepo...back-on-track/

I didn't know the rail park was moving ahead; also great news.

A long time coming for sure, and indeed great news.

The goal was to create many good-paying jobs, and hopefully this will be realized sooner than later.

I'm interested about what they have going on with the rail park. Looks like a developer is pushing it along.

Seems like that is the shtick of CentrePort. Selling larger chunks of land to developers and letting them work it out. Within the framework of CentrePort.

The Nutrien warehouse would seem like a prime candidate for rail access. But I'm not sure exactly what their set-up will be.

With Nutrien moving in to CentrePort I hope that also means there is some sort of plan in place to build a new firehall to better service the area. Fertilizer storage is notorious for being a fire/explosion hazard. Worse if it is in the Roser zone and has more limited access to water services.

Some growth at Centreport:

I wonder if the rail park is progressing?

There is a group trying to get something rail served going. Still sounds like pie in the sky. But you never know. Someone has money they spend.

CentrePort has precisely zero dollars to spend for anything rail served. They want private industry to pay for it.

Sounds like the Centreport Rail Park is scheduled to start this summer as reported by the Freep. Focus Equities Inc. is the developer out of Victoria.

MANITOBA GOVERNMENT CONCLUDES AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP CENTREPORT CANADA RAIL PARK
- - -
Project Will Create New Jobs, Provide Millions in Investment Dollars to the Province: Stefanson

The Manitoba government has concluded a development agreement with Canadian real estate developer Focus Equities Inc. to lead the development of the rail-served industrial project at CentrePort Canada, which will provide significant economic growth, trade, business attraction and investment, job creation and increased tax revenues for Manitoba, Premier Heather Stefanson announced today.

“As we emerge from this pandemic, our government is focused on working with our economic development partners, industry and trade to unlock Manitoba’s true economic potential,” said Stefanson. “This development, in the heart of the country, will support our vision to make Manitoba a true trade gateway nationally and internationally. Expected to create more than 4,800 direct and indirect jobs and have a significant impact on the province’s GDP, the rail park project will help us bolster our economy and attract new businesses, now and well into the future.”

The 665-acre rail park is located within CentrePort Canada, a 20,000-acre inland port project. It will offer globally connected businesses with large-volume shipping needs the ability to access, transfer and transport goods between road and rail, with close access to Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.

The CentrePort Canada Rail Park project builds on the advantages of Manitoba’s central North American geographic location and will play a critical role in enhancing and growing Manitoba’s trade and investment attraction profile domestically, within North America and across the globe, the premier noted.

“With global supply chain issues affecting the industry, there has never been greater demand in North America for a centralized logistics and shipping location for rail, truck and air than now,” said Ken Mariash, owner of Focus Equities Inc. “We are already in negotiations with global brands who are interested in choosing our rail park land for their transportation infrastructure needs. Focus Equities is thrilled to be awarded the CentrePort Canada Rail Park project is honoured that the Province of Manitoba and CentrePort Canada Inc. has chosen our group.”

In 2018, CentrePort Canada Inc., with the support of the Manitoba government, issued a Request for Proposal to attract a private developer for the rail park project. Focus Equities Inc. was selected as the most experienced and qualified developer following that process. The company provides a full range of development, investment, financing, construction and operation of complex real estate, energy and infrastructure projects.
“This development, strategically situated at the hub of international trading corridors, capitalizes on Manitoba’s historical strengths as a leader in trade and transportation and positions the province as a key player now and well into the future,” said David Filmon, chair, CentrePort Canada Inc. board of directors. “Congratulations to the Province of Manitoba for their long-term strategic planning and foresight that has enabled this transformational project to take shape.”

The premier noted today’s announcement builds on other investments made by government to support the expansion and growth of CentrePort Canada and to connect rail service with other forms of transportation.

Most recently, the province has invested in safety improvements to the Perimeter Highway. Major upgrades are also underway, such as the $135 million interchange project at Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 100 (South Perimeter Highway) and St. Mary’s Road, and preliminary planning for a new diamond interchange at PTH 100 and PTH 3.

“All inland ports have rail at the heart of their developments and the CentrePort Canada Rail Park is the linchpin in realizing the vision for a true tri-modal inland port – and North America’s largest – right here in Manitoba,” said Diane Gray, president and CEO, CentrePort Canada Inc. “As an integrated rail corridor connecting Canada through the U.S. to Mexico comes to fruition, significant opportunities exist for CentrePort to continue to grow and offer solutions to companies that manage part of their supply chain by rail. We are excited to work with Ken Mariash and the team at Focus Equities Inc. as they use their wealth of expertise in industrial real estate development to bring this project to life.”

Awesome! Too bad this was not achieved 20 years ago, but I hope we see significant jobs created.

Good news on the agreement. Let's not hold out breath for anything to happen in the near future. Like this year. Maybe next year. I'd suspect we're still years out. But hopefully they prove me wrong!

It is my impression that they hope to start later this year. They have been working on this since 2018.
