Children's Hospital of San Antonio to bring color to downtown skyline

Rendering of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio in west downtown.

Quote:
The nonprofit hospital system issued a statement on Friday afternoon, reconfirming its plans to spend $135 million to transform the downtown campus into a free-standing pediatric facility.

In addition, Christus officials say Texas Children’s Hospital and the Baylor College of Medicine, both in Houston, have agreed to explore an academic affiliation with the San Antonio organization.

All of this comes after the University of Texas System board of regents voted on Friday morning to authorize the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to execute an agreement with Nashville-based Vanguard Health Systems to develop a free-standing children’s hospital in the South Texas Medical Center.

With the announcement today by UTHSC to partner with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and build a free standing hospital in the medical center, this will be SA will have two free standing children's hospital.

There is also the children's hospital attached to Methodist hospital in the medical center.

This is so much better to what currently sitting in downtown. Hopefully, it's nice and colorful at night.

If it's already met with HDRC approval, I'm excited. If it hasn't yet then I'm ready to be disappointed.

It's an improvement aesthetically, for sure. Is anyone else interested in this development outside of its impact on the skyline? It will certainly increase the City's profile in the medical community.

My first thought when I saw that facade was it looks like bookshelves. It's definitely an improvement.

It looks like they'll add some height to it also with that cross design added to the elevator core. Maybe 15 feet taller.
