Looks like Jag hotel is doing well. Along with their planned expansion for the hotel here they're also building one in Halifax... good on 'em! I believe the planned expansion for DT has been discussed here on the threads... I can't remember the exact details though.
I'd like to see them propose something larger, like their development in Halifax, for their St. John's expansion. However I think it'll probably be more or less the same as what's there now, just on the other side of the street.

Took a peek at the most recent committee of the whole agenda and the JAG extension is going to be approx. 9 stories(31m) with a six story concert hall.
31m? I'll take it, a nice middle-height building to help with the skyline.
Here's some more info on the project from the committee of the whole agenda: "Fougere Menchenton Architecture, on behalf of the property owner, Steele Hotels Limited, has applied for a rezoning to the Commercial Central Office (CCO) Zone in order to accommodate a hotel (approximately 31m - 9-storeys) and a concert hall (approximately 17m - 6-storeys). The property is currently zoned Commercial Central Mixed Use (CCM) Zone in which the maximum building height is 15m. A rezoning to the CCO Zone is required in order to accommodate the height of the proposed building. The proposed development would attach to the existing building at 115 George Street West (JAG Hotel)." Would love to see the renderings when they come around.
But it's not just a new hotel in the works: Steele is also planning a large expansion in downtown St. John's, which will include a new 80-room hotel space, a pedway, and a concert hall.
The Jag Hotel opened in 2014 and now has 84 rooms. Steele recently bought the Gaze Seed, Technip, and the old John Howard Society buildings, all across Buchanan Street from the Jag Hotel.
That's where Steele's new performance hall will go.
With space for around 1,500 people, it's inspired by the Helix multi-purpose venue in Dublin.
"You could have shows in there, dinners, conferences," he said. "It gives us a chance to have high-utilization because it's multi-purpose, but also have a lot of fun."
For reference this is what the Helix in Dublin looks like:
Saltwire are selling some properties in the province including the Telegram Building on Topsail/Columbus Drive. I wonder what will go in there next once it’s sold?

An interesting read here from CBC.

Quote:
Despite stories of businesses shutting their doors in the downtown St. John's area, either closing their doors for good or moving shop, things are not all doom and gloom, say owners.
That's just one topic of discussion on the agenda for Wednesday's Downtown Business Summit, the 30th annual meeting where local business owners sit down and discuss what's new, what's old, and what needs to change.
"We figured it's a good time to talk about where we started, where we're to right now, and what we want for the future of downtown St. John's," says Gaylynne Gulliver of Downtown St. John's.
There's an interesting apartment proposal for 66-70 Queen Rd. from the most recent Committee of the Whole agenda. It consists of 2 phases which I will briefly detail: Phase 1 is a 10 story(35m at peak) building and phase 2 is a 4 story building(20m at peak) http://www.stjohns.ca/sites/default/...%2C%202019.pdf
