The East Side, Elgin IL

Elgin is located 30 miles west of Chicago and they used to make lots of watches there. There's about 100,000 people in Elgin. It is very diverse and very cold. These photos are from last February

Nice! I had been to Elgin High School as a teenager, but never saw downtown.

Great I also went to Elgin High School but mine was in the Scottish Highlands! looks a lot different also. I wonder if a homesick Highlander named the town

I have a friend from Elgin. She never complains about the heat in the South, having grown up in northern IL.

Were any of the downtown buildings built by the Elgin watch company?

It’s nice to see others areas in metropolitan Chicago. Some of my cousins moved to Elgin from California over 15 years ago so I was able to visit this city a couple times. It’s an interesting mix of old and new cookie cutter homes. They lived in a newer neighborhood in Elgin, which I hated because without a car I was stranded. Although I enjoyed seeing the older parts of town, and the Metra train had a station there with access to Chicago. I never visit the Library, but it looks quite interesting.

Thanks for sharing these photos, it brings back memories of my visits to Elgin. By the way the best Chile Relleno I had was from Elgin.
