Another crane nerd update..

The base of tower crane #1 is scheduled to be put in place on 09/10. The crane installation is still set for the weekend of 09/21. This one can't be too far away from switching from site prep to U/C.

I was trying to locate a leaked Block 185 image when I came across STG's massing for their Block 71 proposal. Even though Trammell Crow's version is only one tower, I think they had the best proposal.

Does TC have a residential high-rise planned as phase II?

A hotel/residential building was mentioned in one public document filed with the city as a future possibility. But I wouldn't even call it Phase II because that implies a second tower is definitely planned.

You would think, given how hot our market is for pretty much any type of DT inventory, that they’d be anxious to build Phase II — whatever that ends up being. Surely they’d want to maximize that block, right?

Worth noting that they’ve excavated the whole block minus the historical hall — and includes the plot where a Phase II would go. Will be interested to see what goes there as a placeholder as construction continues

Would not want to see that version of a phase two. Remember they shifted the public space to the NW corner of the lot ... that takes advantage of the great windows on the back of the old post office and a rather incredible Oak that has managed to survive.
Considering they took away a public plaza in this plan.. I would want to see the one planned maintained.
We are going to need those spaces as the city grows.

Site plan posted again to the AULCC page with the elevations. I noticed a one foot increase on the main roof and highest occupied floor height.

From Towers. The crane base is in place, and the crane erection is still planned for next weekend.

I wonder if they are going to use the crane to lift the backhoe out of there. The drive out seems impossible now. And may I add, the eastbound density along that street is in the big city league.

The construction company has contracted with SpaceX and they will be strapping the backhoe to a falcon 9 that will fly into the atmosphere and then fall back down and land on the street.

Ok, I guess I had another Captain Obvious moment, but SpaceX would be much cooler.

I don’t know for sure but most likely they would lift it out with a crane , that slope looks too high in my opinion.

Here's an earthmover being lifted out with a mobile crane.

A good operator could climb out of that pit no problem with that excavator. Crane pick for removal would involve lane closures and a beefy crane to accommodate the weight of excavator.

Good equipment, skill set, guts, and a pair of extra strength adult diapers, noooo problem. But that climb out of this site looks more challenging than the situations on the video.

We drove up to Belton this morning for a dog show, and on the way there we passed four or five 18 wheelers carrying red tower crane pieces. I figured it must have been for Block 71.

EDIT:

You can just see the tower crane for it from the Third+Shoal construction cam. It's a red one.

I hope some of our photo contributors were out and about today. Until then, this awful zoom from the Third+Shoal webcam will have to do for a photo of the Block 71 tower crane.
