A DRIVE from Detroit to Lansing at 1200 MPH

Just thought I'd post for leisure. I use to drive this route a lot and found it interesting to see it at such a fast pace. It puts vehicle travel into a different kind of perspective.

Here's another one driving downtown from the north on I-75. You can see the skyline off to the right at minute 2:07.

If I could haul freight that quick getting paid by the mile I'd be a rich truck driver.

could you post one of you going in the tunnel between Detroit and Windsor? I think it would be really cool to see how many seconds are spent on the tunnel darkness and how many on the immigration checkpoint.

wider how? more lanes or wider lanes? Once you get north of Detroit, its pretty rural between there and Lansing so traffic is not as bad.

The freeways are older than what we have out west, hence the smaller size/lack of width.

Michi, what the hell octane were you using to drive that fast!?

lol...Those aren't my videos. I just found them browsing on youtube.

Regarding the width of the freeways. They are your standard 6 and 8 lane urban freeways. They are neither narrow or super wide.

Also, the freeways traveled in these videos are not old. I-696 (the first leg of the first video) was completed in the late 80s and the rest of the video's coverage of I-96 was widened in the early 90s to accommodate for the wreckless sprawling growth from Detroit pushing out toward Lansing. The freeway narrows to 4 lanes after the last of the exurbs about 65 miles from Detroit and about 20 or so miles to Lansing.

The second video is I-75 north of the city. It crosses 8 Mile, passes through downtown and then continues on toward Downriver. Though it's an older freeway, most of it in Detroit is 8 lanes, and the portion in Oakland County is 6. Since Oakland County is the center of Detroit's big business economy, they are always complaining that it needs to be widened and expanded before repairs should be made to older freeways outside of Oakland.

I've never videoed the tunnel before, and I suppose even if I did, I would probably have to turn the camera off at the customs booth anyway.

Just for kicks, heres what the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel looks like:

Nice little trailer conversation they're having there. lol

Those speeded up videos are always cool.

There should be more of them.
