Look at Pittsburgh's traditional economy. Steel, heavy manufacturing, food products. That's very similar to Chicago's traditional economy.

There's nothing wrong with Pittsburgh not being a midwestern city. There's plenty of midwestern cities anyway.

Of course not, I think it's well understood that Pittsburgh is in some category of its own and doesn't really fit into one region. But it has often been included in the so-called Chi-Pitts Megapolis plus its historic economy is rooted in many of the industries that defined the midwest, so it's not unreasonable if some people lump it into the Midwest, even if that's not an accurate characterization.

There is a lot of hype about LA densifying and it has to a degree but much of the city is still low density single family home areas that are still zoned as such with the bill to increase density along transit lines shut down in the State Legislature.
