Why are they bothering to keep that building's frame? It looked like in the master plan that was going to be a tower.

This was always going to be a few 4-6 story buildings, some residential, some office. Lake/Flato got the job to redesign the space after all kinds of drama and they are probably keeping the bones but drastically rethinking the space in general. There is a thread out there about the project, which will still be a 4-6 story cluster of buildings.

Called Broadway Lofts now...will be very important in establishing that sector of downtown as an emerging neighborhood.

The Broadway lofts are west of the park, this development is to the east. I haven't heard anything about this project.

are those pictures of something other than the shell that stood at broadway/281/35 for so long? i thought we were talking about the old George Geis project that Cross & Co bought out of bankruptcy...

No that property was never meant to be a tower.

Looks very nice, but what's up with the mountain ranges in the back? It's been a while since I've been north of downtown, but I'm sure I would've remembered seeing those rock formations...

River North SAHA..

Quote:
Scope:
JH+P worked closely with the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) to provide land planning services to support SAHA's HOPE VI grant application. The project included planning for five scattered sites located throughout the City of San Antonio.

The REX, located on the River Walk in downtown San Antonio, was programmed to include 200 market rate and tax credit units and limited retail over a structured parking deck.

Solution:
A four-story tower fronts onto St. Mary's Avenue. Two 2-story entry portals open onto St. Mary's providing street level pedestrian access through the site to the San Antonio River Walk beyond. Three towers of 3-stories each are oriented perpendicular to the River Walk and terminate at the river's edge. The towers form urban courtyards in keeping with the cities rich tradition of creating public spaces while allowing public access to the River Walk.

i like this project as well. kind of too bad that it is a bit of a suburban complex on the river (which i think we'll regret in 20 years when we're scratching for space to build on down there) but for the time being it takes up space, puts 500 residents into river north, and is likely a green-lighted deal due to its saha alliances.
