Phoenix: Momentum Hotel Tower - 43 Stories

Very preliminary right now with not very many details, but it appears to be a condo/hotel tower at 43 stories tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in Phoenix.

The Art Deco building immediately to the right of the tower is the 1931 Valley National Bank building which is currently being renovated into a boutique hotel by the same developer who wants to put up the Momentum tower. The same developer is also currently topping out a 34 story condo tower, 44 Monroe, just down the street from this project. Bottom line, they definitely already have a strong presence in Phoenix's downtown.

I love the architecture of this one, something new and striking for Phoenix.

I like it. It is something that will be very different from the rest of Phoenix. I hope it will turn out that color of blue too.

Initial take on it: very nice. But I'd like to see other angles of it, and renders with more detail. IMO it look like it'll work real well with the art deco building.

Momentum is to be constructed in front of the Hyatt on the left side of this photo (just to the right of the Bank One Tower, which is now called the Chase tower) that I took in August, 2005:

It actually reminds me of some Asian designs. There's one building in Bangkok that especially reminds me of this one with the thin shape. It's one of their tallest buildings.

Anyway, it has to be at least 500 feet tall. We have a tower proposed for Austin with a similar shape and proportions. That building will have 44 floors and be 580 feet tall, and it too is a hotel/condo tower.

I really like the vertical emphasis.

Time to read some tea leaves:

The Professional building is 172 feet to the highest part.

Therefore:

The ultimate height will probably be around 450 to 500 feet as I realize my method is prone to error.

The little Golden West Building is a small price to pay for a tower of this stature:

I still say that the city should tie approvals of this tower to restoring the original parapet of the Professional Building. That awful 1960's flat roof and ribbon glazing just has to go. Let them build a setback penthouse on that floor with an indoor/outdoor bar!

So, am I seeing things, or do I see the shell of the Golden West at the base of the tower? Are they intending to preserve the facade?
