The lot that they're going to build the Embassy Suites on is blocked off because they're doing some archaeological excavations before it gets completely dug up. Supposedly there are some buried trenches from the war of independence there. I'll miss my view westward once that building's there, but I shouldn't be selfish. It'll be much better than a parking lot.

The other lot that you probably saw was at the corner of Houston and Navarro. That's where the old Walgreens and long-vacant Stuarts buildings were. What's going there is not spectacular at all- a Wallgreens on the ground floor, and Nix offices on the second floor. That's it.

Walking to work, I saw activity in the old Tawil's store at 402 E. Houston. I got excited thinking it might be pre-demolition work to make way for the building that's supposed to start construction there later this year, but I think now that it's just the construction office for the Neisner renovation across the street.

Anyone have an update on the Piazza San Lorenzo? The Solo Serve building is as ugly as ever.

Anybody got any inside information?

Article from EN today

Here's a link to an Express-News article about some recent feuds about historic demolitions. It mentions goings on about the 10 story 1928 Hetrick building at 603 N. St. Mary's.

Love the scenery...especially the 2-lane Hill Country highway. Some crazy driving! If they're gonna weave through traffic at 100mph, they could at least signal

Awesome I was wondering one what this building was. I can see it from BAMC.

There is suppose to be like 12 other buildings that they are going to build on Ft. Sam in the next 2 to 3 years...plus bamc is almost going to double in size with two parking garages built also.

If I have that time this weekend. I will go to each lot and take a picture and right down the addresses. There is at least 4 lots...and then there are some prepped lots on Broadway north of IH35...

The big lot on Broadway that I think you're referring to is slated to be an apartment complex. From what I remember from the article in the paper a year or so ago, the drawings looked nice. Nothing very tall, though. Probably 3-5 stories.
Demolition got to the stage it is now several months ago, so I'm worried there may be money problems.

I wonder what could go in the old Playland Park land off of Alamo street back there. That's a pretty big plot that could accommodate something substantial.

Yeah, it broke ground two weeks or so ago.

It might even be worth a post in "Transportation" section, since there's entries in there about new terminals at Indianapolis Int'l and Sacramento Int'l.

Granted, these two terminals aren't quite on the scale of those projects, but still worthy of their own thread, I'd think.

Some pics of Terminal B construction, taken by SchizzoTX from the upper level of terminal 1:

1. The torn up road and the new drop-off/pickup setup. Notice the terrible traffic at 2pm on a Monday. The traffic was backed all the way past terminal 1:

2. Demolishing part of the old terminal 2, and beginning work on the two level road that will eventually connect with the road in front of terminal 1:

3. Beginning work on the new terminal:

4.
