Well, those google earth models definitely put in perspective. Kevin, its all love, I was just lamenting the fact that we haven’t had our skyline pop like Austin. I love how the Austin skyline is maturing and constantly changing. Austin and Seattle are in my top 5 favorites in North America. NYC, Chicago, & Toronto are my top 3.

I love all of the growth in midtown SA and I agree that if it can be anything like DC or Paris, that would be amazing.

It's just a rough model at this point, and I didn't include the setbacks. Of course, the building will have some setbacks, so the tower portion won't be totally up against the street. Only the first 3 floors will be meeting the street in those setback sections, so it probably won't appear quite as bulky as my model shows it. Eventually, I'll go back and do some editing and repost them. Still, this is a good sized project, and I like the design.

I haven't seen many updates on this one. the https://sabotdevelopment.com/ has some news updates from earlier in the year about more parcel acquisition. Their site says a groundbreaking in early 2021 with completion in 2023.

Staff recommends approval.

It's funny that the project's name is Elmira at Myrtle when the project is not actually at that intersection. I wish they would call it Locust at Euclid.

Looks great. I'd guess the name was because Locust has a somewhat negative connotation and isn't as pretty a name as Elmira.

For what it's worth, the street is almost certainly named after one of the species of trees known as locust trees:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locust_tree

But yeah, most people would certainly think of the bug first and not the tree lol.

Austin developer's 10-story mixed-use tower set to rise next year

Quote:
An Austin-based developer is moving along with its first endeavor in San Antonio at a property immediately adjacent to Pearl.

Sabot Development is planning Mira, a mixed-use project at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Locust Street with 299 apartment units; 11,660 square feet of retail and commercial space; and 426 parking spaces as well as a rooftop deck.

"We hope to host local businesses to events at the rooftop with our residents and guests," said Jim Young, managing partner for Sabot. "Having joined the military from San Antonio, I had the opportunity to travel the world and wanted to bring a rooftop experience as I’d seen in places around the world like Chicago and NYC."

The property will feature a rooftop amenity deck with views of the Pearl area and downtown.

Floor plans will include efficiencies, one-, two- and three-bedroom units to be leased at the market rate, according to Young. He said he wants the community to be home to local residents such as entrepreneurs, tech employees, athletes, and military staff.

The project team includes architectural firm Gensler, KFW Engineers + Surveying, general contractor Cadence McShane Construction and Austin-based Roscoe Property Management.

The San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission has granted final approval to the design. Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2022, with completion by the first quarter of 2024.

Sabot has worked on several projects in the Austin area, including Cheatham Street Flats, a 157-unit apartment project in San Marcos, and the Aloft Hotel in South Austin.

The project is one of several residential developments set to shape the area surrounding Pearl. Silver Ventures, the development group behind Pearl, has been preparing to build an $87 million apartment complex at 1126 E. Elmira St.

Other third-party developers have also taken notice of the demand for housing around the complex. Local development group The Lynd Co. also has proposed apartments at 120 Josephine St. Embrey Partners is under construction on apartments at the former site of a self-storage facility along U.S. 281 alongside the redevelopment of the former Borden creamery property.

No, I just don't think Mira is this building. Unless I'm mistaken because that article states that this was one is at 1126 Elmira and the Mira is at Euclid and Locust.

EDIT: Okay, I was thinking of the Silver Ventures one. I was right the first time posting that here! Lemme add it back to my post.

FAA permit for the building. This says 130 feet.

It also lists the work schedule as 11/01/2021 to 01/31/2024.

Was walking at the Pearl this past weekend, and this project should break ground soon. A sign with renderings of the project is anchored on the development fence!
And a few blocks away the construction on the 120 Josephine Street Apartment tower has begun.
