I will be glad when something is actually being built (other than the park) out there. We've been hearing about this for 3 or 4 years now.

^Despite the buzzkill comment above, Brandywine has hit pretty much every mark they have made public ... going back to FMC and Evo (once the recession ended).
It's not every day that the head of the city's biggest developer (since Liberty Property's departure) tells Inga that a 770,000 sq foot building, and a 344-unit apt building will be breaking ground before 2020. This is an excellent day for Philadelphia.

They need this spot-zoning bill to pass for them to move forward or else they'll be going to a buttload of ZBA meetings for each project

Updating an old newspaper building for Philadelphia’s new Schuylkill Yards innovation district

https://www.philly.com/real-estate/i...-20190509.html

Inga reviews the updated Bulletin Building. Confirms the newer renderings are what they will be going with, so no video screen.

Is that some sort of scrolling ticker at the bottom?

"The architects also plan to restore the electronic ticker over the first floor."

It's interesting how they went about this from a timeline standpoint. They take well over a year to renovate a park...and then will open said park to the public...only then to annoy and pester any park goers by constant, loud construction on the adjoining building for the next several years, thus keeping people away from their new park that they want the public to engage with....

I know timelines don't always work out and Amazon HQ and stuff...

I had the same thought. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have done the construction on the Bulletin Building first. I'm having visions of contractors driving their equipment across the new lawn to get to the site.

It looks like the process for this project is gonna be a different architect for every building, seeing as they originally were going with SHoP for this one, but pulled out. At least, that's how the article kinda frames it.

It'll be interesting to see what this project ends up looking like by the end. I'm sure that if they intend to start two of the JFK towers this year, they have renderings for them somewhere. Will all of the buildings follow a unified theme? Will they all be unique takes on the same motifs? Will each building be entirely unique, and only be unified by the name Schuylkill Yards? I suppose only time will tell...

I HATE how the architects had to somehow drag in the golden ratio to this renovation. Really? You couldn't go with something more original?

Just some info - so the firm that is now developing the first two towers was started in 2015 by the former principal of SHoP - Vishaan Chakrabarti (who is quite acclaimed).
http://pau.studio/

https://www.architectmagazine.com/pr...and-urbanism_o

So it looks like - Brandywine decided to move over with Mr. Chakrabarti.

more info: I asked Inga if she was able to see the renderings for the first two towers, she said she tried, but Brandywine is keeping those under wraps (no surprise there).

I mean, you could go on Twitter and ask her yourself, she's pretty good with responding to questions.

Crane was on site today to erect the final lights. Park should be opening soon. Like, really soon.

Any update on that zoning bill?

It's just fantastic to see them invest in a park. It looks great!

This is looking great. They plan to eventually relocate that bus terminal/subway kiosk, right? I think I remember that vaguely. It would be better to not have it directly in front of the park.
