I think several dozen of those could go anywhere within these areas no problem.

Nice map. Now that I'm living downtown I am up and down Ellice and Sargent quite a bit. Those streets seem ripe for some buildings like mentioned above. By default you could always get students renting out, if not more permanent residents.

^ Yes.

Student housing has already made huge progress with the U of W's new additions. I think the student housing by the new science building is already full...

Well visually I don't think much will change. Urban sprawl will take over with Sage Creek and Waverly West. In those area they will big load of box like stores of course only benefiting the southern part of the city. Better Question is.... What will Detroit look like in the same time? lol

Detroit will be a fairly strong urban core with good employment figures, surrounded by farmland, surrounded by exurbs.

those Winnipeg suburbs are moving at a pretty fast pace.

I wonder what would need to happen in this city for us to get a migration of 70 000 people in one year.

In the recent years all those small communities surrounding and south of Winnipeg have been growing pretty fast. I don't know what it is but it seems to be Mennonite places that are going population boom. Winkler, Morden and Steinbach. I am surprised that Steinbach isn't in the CMA of Winnipeg.

Yes, what is Steinbach's population? And is Selkirk included in the CMA?

I believe Steinbach just passed 12,000 and Selkirk isn't included in Winnipeg's CMA.

Ok well Selkirk is involved in the Capital Region.

I think it's actually more then 12,000. There is the City and then the RM of Hanover. Don't be surprised in the next census that its the 3rd most populous City in Manitoba. Its hard to say really Portage la Prairie, Thompson and Steinbach have experienced some growth.

^ There is growth. I am personally ignorant to how the growth is because I don't see too many cranes...but guys there is a ton of construction happening all over.

Lane expansions, bridge replacements, CHRM, proposals, houses, airport, UofM, UofW...

sure it might not be Calgary's level, but its momentum. Any momentum is good.

Oh yah, and that thing called CentrePort. Once that gets going, its gonna b a huge economic boom for the city.

It isn't really going to be a boom, it's a very long term project. It will provide a steady stream of construction and employment but it probably won't have an "immediate impact" effect like Calgary's skyline. It will be more like the suburbs: Constantly growing, but not really that noticeable to the average person unless you're away from them for a long time.

Which, in my opinion, is actually preferable. Boom implies an eventual bust. I'd hate to see what something like Centreport would become if it busts.

Ah yes. I meant more of an economic boom once it is all said and done. I do realize it might take beyond our lifetimes to be fully realized however.
