^Is that a highway or a rail line they're building into the city? It's been a while since my last visit.

Impressive tour of photos. Hanoi is definitely on my list of places to check out.

^It's definitely worth a visit. Adventurous types rarely regret a trip to Vietnam.

That's what I'm thinking

HCMC looks interesting too, but definitely something really intriguing about Hanoi. I'll be visiting Australia in the spring and was thinking of a side tour to Vietnam, are there reasonably cheap flights from Aussie to Vietnam?

Re Flights
I believe so but don't quote me on that. Malaysia Airlines does regular flights from Oz to VN if you feel like rolling the dice.

Ha Noi and Ha Long Bay (both in the north) are certainly worth visiting. Ho Chi Minh City much less so. It's lost a lot of its character in recent years. HN is the cultural capital of the country while HCMC is the economic capital. That's about all I can say about it unfortunately.

Hanoi will look like complete concrete jungle if all of its high rise build close together... i just dont know why this City high rise appartment / office scatter around eventually where ever u go there's always a high rise to look up.
