MINNEAPOLIS | Superior Plating Phase 1 | 18 floors | 189 feet

The newest plan for the Superior Plating site will likely see a crucial vote Wednesday on neighborhood group support.

Housing developer Lennar recently released concepts for an 18-story residential tower and plaza. Victor Grambsch, president of the Nicollet Island East Bank Neighborhood Association, said in an email that he expects the group's task group to consider a resolution supporting the proposed design at its meeting Wednesday.

Recent concepts of the development show 15 residential floors in the tower including two penthouse levels, a floor with a lobby and amenities, and two floors of above ground and underground parking. The plaza area, which includes residential, retail and amenity space, shows a five-story low-rise residential corridor, a nearly 5,000-square-foot restaurant, more than 17,000 square feet of street-level retail space, and an amenity terrace with a pool, hot tub and an outdoor dining area. Other proposed residential amenities include bike storage and repair, a room for dog washing, a 2,600-square-foot clubroom and a nearly 1,800-square-foot fitness center.

NIEBNA's Superior Plating Task Group, in its fifth iteration, has passed over several development plans for the high-profile site, but Grambsch told the Journal last fall that Lennar's development has been the most impressive. The proposed approximately 450-unit development, while just short of the group's goal of 500 to 600 units, meets the requirements of NIEBNA's small area plan.

NIEBNA is meeting Jan. 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 1 Lourdes Place. A meeting agenda can be found here.

No doubt to further confuse many people into thinking that the area across the river from downtown is St. Paul, even more so considering the number of highrise proposals coming for that area of Minneapolis. NOTE: Downtown St. Paul is 10 miles east/southeast.

yeah, 289 feet seemed like a really tall figure for a flat-roofed 18 story residential tower.

i'll update the thread title.

Often times the ground level on those drawings starts at 100 feet, for whatever reason. At least for developments I have seen in Minneapolis.
