This is exactly what will happen. No more speculating as to where Holt's will go during construction. It will stay where it is for now, and only move once phase one of construction is complete.

At least it's a clean looking design. No randomly placed windows or balconies.

Any word on whether the Holt Renfrew Center will be expanded?

So are they basically tearing down the entire Holt Renfrew Centre mall other than the Holt Renfrew itself and replacing it, with part of it being over Holt Renfrew store?

Judging from Koops65's diagram - this podium will be taller than Aura's, which is saying a lot.

I know a lot of people don't like this proposal because it's not "epic" enough, but I think it looks great. It's not over the top and retains a sophisticated perfect for Bloor St. (Yorkville).

I definitively like the middle portion of the tower best. To me, the tower is a continuation of the trend in Toronto where the condo towers are trying very hard to be more than just bland glass boxes, and should deliver an acceptable amount of diversity to the skyline.

the podium alone will be 35m tall... I think this one has Aura beat on Epicness!

also, If one were to measure from the water level of lake ontario, this would be taller than FCP!! the top floor penthouse will be looking down on the top floor offices of FCP.. crazy!

I love the top of this one. Nothing too over the top or overtly ornate, but still different from just a plain square box.

I like the massing - and the massing of the top - but I hope they don't clad the crown in frosted glass. Unless they plan on lighting it at night. That would be cool. During the day, however, it would look kind of cheap.

I wish they'd go taller, but it has amazing architectural quality like DrNest said:

Nice tower, but I have to ask...what the hell does Toronto have against 1,000-foot buildings? This isn't Singapore.

Nothing. It's just nobody has ever decided to build one. The city has approved 2 supertalls over the years, and came close to approving a third. It's just that the developers always back out.. Or they don't propose one at all. You must remember that until 2009, toronto only had 6 buildings over 200m. I consider this boom to be a maturing for Toronto, with the
Skyline jumping from 100m with a 298m peak, to 180-200m with a 298m peak and a couple of standouts in between. This building, at 277m will be over 100m taller than the tallest building in this area before the boom. That little brown building in the rendering used to be one of the tallest buildings in the area.. Now we will be going from 2 140m buildings and a 150m building at yonge and bloor to 204m, 238m, 250m, and 277m.. We will get that supertall, but maybe not quite yet. And what can I say? Third times the charm!
