It'll be quite an effort to remove the temporary shoring works. Which from my understanding is everything they installed on site. It will be difficult.

I don't know why you would bother. You are liable to cause a collapse. Why not just leave the shoring in place?

Are they allowed to do that?

They would leave the shoring in place. That way future developers would have an easier time building.

Does a surface parking lot need all that shoring? How about a 2 story office building?

I don't see any big projects happening in Regina for quite a while.

Do you think the City holds off on filling in the hole in hopes of a quick sale? Would seem that having a lot of the excavation work done already may be a selling feature of the lot.

According the the city it's a safety issue, so presumably they will continue as they are.

Additionally, any sale that did happen would be a lengthy process as its through the courts.

Winning tender to fill the hole should be announced within days.
Fill to start in summer and finish in early fall.

This should be marked as a cancelled project, no?

Is litigated a project status? Yes, the moderators should mark this as cancelled.

I thought the tender said remove all shoring works? I'm not sure another developer would take on the risk of something like that. Partially installed shoring for a failed development 5 stories below ground. Maybe though.

Yes, shoring is to be removed. I was surprised to see fixing sidewalks included, but I'm glad that was included.

Work to fill the hole has been contracted out officially.

Quote:
The work is expected to cost $2,601,819, excluding taxes. The city is also allowing for a contingency of $390,272. The total cost of $2,992,091 will be charged to the property tax bill of the owner, which land titles show is still Westgate Properties.

Construction will start in June, according to an administration report that came to council on Monday. It is expected to be complete by the end of October.

...he said crews from the successful bidder, CBS Contracting Inc., will sometimes work 24 hours a day. Work will be scheduled to avoid traffic disruptions, according to administration.

...In the end, the property will be fenced off and paved over with asphalt.

"He said he’s not yet sure how much that will cost, but is confident his company can finance it. It might include a plan to buy out the bank that owns the first ranked mortgage on the property. His team would convert their debt to equity and find a “local credible partner” to build. According to Nichilo, there’s already interest."

Yea... this sounds terrible lol
